My best friend died last week but this week I started a life-changing job so I guess a little.

Depressed is probably not the right word though. Mostly just sad.

yes- there's a specific word for it that i can't remember. probably more than one

sometimes it's a combination of joy for the good things in life and the sadness of knowing they won't stay the same forever- preemptive reminiscing, or nostalgia for the present. babysitting a nice kid with a serious mental disability feels that way. goodbyes (even temporary ones) can be like that. or maybe it's going out and doing something fun, and wondering why i wasn't doing it 5 years ago. as a kid i might get the feeling thinking about the bewildering potential of the rest of my life. i think important ceremonies like marriage and graduation are meant to evoke that feeling

other times, if i'm feeling depressed, i can accept the depression and let go of my responsibilities. i'll curl up with a book, tv series, video game, or whatever at home and avoid people for a few days. it's an enjoyable, self-destructive happiness/depression. feels like being a pig in slop, but it's nice. being of one mind, to not have the "id" and "ego" arguing anymore (id and ego aren't real things, but you get my point)

there's also accomplishing something meaningful while melancholy. acing a test, winning a sports game, getting a new job, getting someone bad out of your life, getting some kind of strong personal victory, even doing physical volunteer/charity work, or helping a friend move. it feels gratifying and maybe kind of like an enjoyable anger. i think a lot of trolls on the internet are trying to replicate that feeling by dunking on others. come to think of it, i think a lot of people playing challenging or competitive video games are looking for that feeling

i'm rambling, but emotions are super interesting to me and aren't easily quantifiable

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Yep this. There's always the undercurrent of "Well, I'm not really happy"
