No. He has actual mental impairments that were diagnosed. An actual lawyer was prepared to bring that up at sentencing and it might have saved his life. But the courts allowed this idiot to represent himself and he actually fought AGAINST the court hearing about his mental impairments because he believed that white nationals wouldnt save him if they found out he was mentally impaired.

Was he evaluated by a psychiatrist that deemed him mentally ill/unfit to stand trial?

Yes, because they're still people. Killing innocent people doesn't make someone not a person anymore. You can strip their freedom, but nobody should decide who gets to die. That's why convicted murderers are imprisoned.

seriously, who even cares if they adapt and are content. Theyre in jail, away from the rest of us, pretending to be happy with no life at all. Ultimately, the satisfaction of killing an asshole like Roof isnt worth the accidental deaths of hundreds of innocent people sentenced to death. Our court system, and just we as humans, are not infallible to the point where this can be viable.

Look, I'm generally against the death penalty. The American justice system is a giant shitshow filled with bias and systemic issues. Innocent people are executed on far to regular basis. That being said, there is no possible dispute that people like Timothy McVeigh, James Holmes, and Dylan Roof are guilty of the crimes they committed. Those are the types of people that we should be executing. They cannot be released back into society, they are (or were in the case of McVeigh) dangerous violent people that cannot or will not be rehabilitated. Hell McVeigh stated in the lead up to his execution that his only regret was not destroying the entire federal building. Roof literally has a cult lurking in the depths of the internet that fucking worships him (as stated in a previous post they refer to him as Saint Roof), as does Holmes.

The goal of our criminal justice system should be the rehabilitation of those who can be rehabilitated and the removal from society of those who cannot or whose crimes are so egregious that they cannot be forgiven by society. In those particular instances where there is absolutely no doubt as to the guilt of the perpetrator, there is no reasonable justification to ask a society to continue to clothe, feed, shelter, and guard them.
