i've been saying for years we should have just carpet bombed the whole country, planted the american flag, and turned afghanistan into the 51st state, but NOBODY LISTENED!?!?!

beyond doing exactly that we were never going to stop this shit from happening. you dont spend 20 years destroying a country and expect the population to thank you for it after all.

America lost the war and that's a sting to our pride, but we're out of danger. The Taliban won't be stupid enough to attack us again knowing they suffer years of war and territorial losses as a result.

Also, don't forget that America's army was:
A) fighting two simultaneous wars in two different countries
B) comprised entirely of volunteer entries

If the Taliban attacked us again, we would have every right to draft as many eligible people as we needed to crush them. And it would be one on one this time. (No sending troops to Iraq.) I think even the majority of antiwar individuals would realize that, if the Taliban attacks us again, they won't let up until we're under Sharia Law.

And that is exactly why the Taliban won't attack us again. It's better to be feared and revered in their surrounding areas as the country that defeated America than it is invite their demise with another attack.

It's just that the US spend so much fucking money getting rid of the Taliban after 2001 that them coming back just feels like all of that was done for nothing

I knew it from the start.

Like with Vietnam.

You can't fight a half ass war.

When you go to war you go all the way or don't go at all.

Honestly Afghanistan is so incredibly diverse and a lot of people are kept seperated by its terrain it was a pipe dream to try and unify the country under a western democracy.

I just hope everyone who was a US informant made it out ok but I've heard some many locals have been ghosted by us.

We probably wont. We are leaving all our air bases behind. Maybe we fly missions from a carrier but thats a long flight just to look around.
We could keep track of them with satellites, and use drones for the strikes, refueled by drone. But then again, all that might not pass cost analysis. It just stings seeing those bastards retaking the country using American vehicles with American guns mounted on them.

Nah, thats historical revisionism.

You cant say US lost the war when they literally dismantled the ruling government and its armed forces, then controlled the nation for two decades. It was not American soil, so they were inevitably going to leave. They trained and supplied the local Afghan forces to protect their country, but apparently a lot of them dont really want to do that.

it depends on what the goals of the war was
was the goal of the war just to dismantle a government and occupy land for two decades?
or was it to create a safer world free of terrorism?

if the first, good for you, you did it, whopp de doo
if the second, it's absolutely a loss

(not counting in the real goal of the war being to fatten up the military industrial complex and get a bunch of oil being a factor)
