It's on sale on the Xbox store for $23.99, I had been holding out since I have a Series S so I couldn't get the physical copy whenever it went on sale.

People have said it's a BotW clone which I actually did like more than any other Zelda game, so I'm curious to hear from anyone who's played it.

What if we took Assassin's Creed Odyssey and did it again but with more cartoony character designs and let Zeus and Prometheus narrate the action

I absolutely loved it. I loved it a lot more than BOTW though, but I thought BOTW was one of my least favorite Zelda games.

I did a full completion of it, but I haven't touched the DLC yet. Basically, it has some absolutely hilarious humor in it from the Gods, mostly, and playing off the character. The combat is really fun, and can get really challenging as well. I had a great time doing all the puzzles and they somehow never felt terribly repetitive. I can't remember what the map marking technique is, but you can just go to high areas and scan to find objectives to go to.

But I had an awesome time playing and never got bored. The ending kind of comes in a bit fast, unfortunately, and they do the Ubisoft thing of trying to push microtransactions in your way, but it never feels necessary at all.

I dunno what in particular you liked about BOTW, but pretty much everything I hated about BOTW I felt they fixed in IFR.

I was really into it for 5 hours then it crashed before a cutscene and now every time I go to load into the save file or any save file it crashes at that cutscene so I guess bad

My guess is we are polar opposites. I hated horizon zero dawn for instance because it felt like work. I didnt want to collect 20 artifacts on the minimal, but felt I had to because they were there

I thought BotW was amazing because it just let me find things, I would see a cool mountain in the distance and get excited that there was probably something cool there, because there always was something cool in weird places.

Ive heard immortals is way closer to the horizon zero dawn style of everything being on your map so I noped out hard

You can literally play the game without filling up your map at all and just explore like BOTW if you want and nothing forces you to do otherwise.

Also, I forgot to mention how gorgeous this game is. Because it's so freaking beautiful.

Maybe check out Genshin Impact instead. Most people seem to agree that's the better game.

I would if I had a system that ran it.

Sadly my base PS4 runs it at like 10 FPS.

Having started this, my general feeling is this game is the very definition of "fine."

Controls fine, visually is fine, gameplay is fine, voice acting is fine (not particularly funny, but not really cringey or anything). The question is how much time do I want to dedicate to a fine experience.

That was my feeling of it too. I enjoyed my time playing it, but after ten hours I just dropped it. Easily a game you could 100% and then forget existed.

I liked it for a while, but got tired of it and had to force myself to finish. Some parts are kind of maze-like and required me to use a power to scout ahead to get a better look at things. I guess it does a better job of pointing you to where you need to go than BoTW, so I liked it better for that.

I feel like IFR is definitely a game that ramps up. After you get past the title splash (can't remember when that is) it feels like the game really hits its stride in terms of voice acting, comedy, and gameplay. When you unlock more combat powers, it really makes the gameplay a lot more dynamic and fun, and challenging. I loved the combat in the game though, because it's simple to learn and hard to master, but when you get that sweet spot in between you just really have so many cool fights.
