Like, if you are injured on the job and the ambulence doesn't take you to the nearest hospital... but to the nearest "networked" hospital, which might be like an hour away and 5 hospitals in between

Watch last weeks Last Week Tonight to learn about how screwed the EMS system is. Ambulances are not in any network so are unlikely to be covered by insurance.

Honestly America, I don't understand how you are even a super power.

because the money that should go to health care is instead going to things like bloated military budgets

Right, right, the Military Congressional Industrial Complex that Eisenhower warned us about

(There is a draft of his letter to Kennedy that calls it the Military Congressional Industrial Complex, but he dropped the word congressional from the final copy)

The problem with Medical is similar tot he problem with the military... pricing.

I mean, ok - the joke is Americans pay like $1000 for an xray when it's like $50 everywhere else...

Well, the military is the same - your army duders are paying like $11k for their M16s... that's really dumb

Ah yes, the Master Price List; I can not do the history of the MPL justice, but it is totally wack how the insurance industry used it to screw people over.

America could solve a lot of problems just by imposing strict regulations on pricing, but that would be communism apparently; sooooooo much better to let the invisible hand of the market jack off to the profits that can be made at exploiting the vulnerable.

You'll be amazed when you learn how simple the answer to all your questions is. Our healthcare system is a joke. That's it.

It gets even worse than that. Sometimes an emergency room or hospital will be in network but the emergency room physician won't be. So you can get a bill where you think it's covered because you went to the right hospital but you actually aren't.

Maybe this is a cultural issue? People rarely, if ever go to the Hospital. It's the opposite of a place like Japan where they go for the smallest thing. I'd likely just call my PCP or something. I don't even know what you're talking about.

And even if you have insurance, if they can find a reason to deny coverage, they will, a big reason why republicans wanted to remove protections for pre-existing conditions from the affordable care act. This would have allowed insurance companies to go back to denying coverage because you once stubbed your toe before you had insurance with this provider, so now you have to pay out of pocket for that broken leg (as an example).

And then there are the healthcare sharing ministries, that you can join instead of acquiring insurance, but they are not covered by the same regulations as insurance providers and are under no obligation to pay or reimburse your medical expenses. In fact, they can deny coverage on "moral" reasons, like failing to live a "Christian" lifestyle, or suffering the injury as a result of an action that they deem inappropriate to a "Christian" lifestyle like if you were attacked outside a bar while you were walking down the street, it's your fault because you should have known better then walk near such an establishment of ill repute.

If you wear cotton poly blends, that's forbidden by Deuteronomy, and therefore you can be denied coverage from a healthcare sharing ministry.
