Another one! Jake Gyllenhaal is the latest celebrity to enter the debate about bathing and he has his own reason for choosing to skip showers. More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times, Gyllenhaal, 40, revealed to Vanity Fair on Thursday, August 5. I do also think that theres a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves. Although the Nocturnal Animals actor opts out of scheduled shower sessions, he did clarify that he brushes his teeth often. I do believe, because Elvis Costello is wonderful, that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere. So I do [brush my teeth], he noted. Gyllenhaal is one of several actors who have recently started a conversation about proper shower protocol. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, for example, explained how they werent in a rush to constantly bathe their kids: Wyatt, 6, and Dimitri, 4. Now, heres the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, theres no point, Kutcher, 43, told Armchair Expert podcast hosts Dax Shepard and Monica Padman last month.

Kunis, 37, who married Kutcher in July 2015, explained that she didnt shower much when she was growing up due to a lack of hot water, and thats influenced her own parenting approach. The Ukraine native also clarified that while she does wash her face twice a day, she doesnt use soap on her body the same amount. I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever, the Black Swan star detailed. I got a bar of Lever 2000 that delivers every time. Nothing else. I do have a tendency to throw some water on my face after a workout to get all the salts out. One week later, Kristen Bell and Shepard, 46, opened up about their nightly routine with their children. The couple, who share daughters Lincoln, 8, and Delta, 6, used to bathe their kids every single night before bed until they got older. By George, we had to start saying, Hey, whens the last time you bathed them? the Parenthood alum mentioned during an appearance on The View on Tuesday, August 3. Shepard admitted that they have gone five or six days before realizing that their kids havent taken a bath. The Frozen star, 41, broke down their system, saying, Once you catch a whiff, thats biologys way of letting you know you need to clean it up. Theres a red flag, because honestly, its just bacteria. And once you get the bacteria, you gotta be like, Get in the tub or the shower,' Bell added.

Europeans don't shower... they smell awful. Even though it's always freezing cold there and they don't sweat, it doesn't mean they shouldn't bathe themselves.

I actually always wondered about people who say they shower in 10 minutes. I'm always left scowling at that. What, do you just hop in the water, then quickly hop out? There's no way anyone can properly bathe themselves in that time. You'd need a full couple of minutes just to let the soap settle in the skin after vigorously scrubbing. And that's assuming you're only doing body and not also hair/shampoo care.

Also people who only have a shower head and not a shower hand are disgusting. How the hell do you clean your nether regions if you can't aim the nozzle directly under your body to that area. Not to mention improper anus cleaning with just a shower head.

Yeah. Sounds like people that just put soap on their upper bodies and just let it run down and after a rinse they consider it "clean".

Simply put, shower when you feel it's necessary.

For me I take one like, every other day. If I don't have to go to work and/or am not going out much, I sometimes go a bit longer than that. But generally I don't feel it necessary to shower daily.

Are you that bad at showering that you have to be in there a long time?

Im able to get a good cleaning in in 10 minutes or less. And of course I scrub the main stank zones (pits, crotch, bum) extra well.

Showering every other day isn't that big a deal, especially if you're working from home or have weeks of free time between filming like they would. But going almost a week without bathing is pretty grimy, especially if you're going out and meeting with people constantly.

Were in a drought; not showering is my civic duty.

I usually take Navy showers, i. e. I turn off the water when not actively using it, such as to scrub or to shave.

I do miss the removable head (hand-held) shower we had at our old house, but so far I havent been able to convince my husband to get one here.

Most Americans do bathe too often, though. Its actually bad for hair to be washed daily.

Gonna be honest, I only clean myself to the fullest extent and start dealing with bodywashes/conditioners/colognes in conjunction with bathing if I'm going to be dealing with complete strangers.

it takes two minutes to shower, five if you're being lazy. little shampoo in the hair, little for the pits and crotch, then you scrub. if you want to be real efficient use a loofah or other form of shower scrubber tool. if you really want to conserve water you turn on the shower to get soaked and turn it off to lather up.

To make money for shampoo corporations. Most people dont actually need to use shampoo. Theres some who do because of excessive dandruff or other oil production issues, but for the most part its not just unnecessary but actively harmful.
