chris chan should not have been allowed on social media, period. Same is true for other mentally ill "personalities" like etika. Families/doctors of these people should be able to contact sites like twitter/youtube/whatever and have them banned.

Using social media is absolutely dangerous for mentally ill people when they reach a certain level of public awareness. I saw it happen to my bipolar roommate a decade ago. At the time I thought I was being supportive when she showed off how proud she was of her online fanbase, but it was really messing with her ability to function socially. and no matter how hard her parents tried to help, she devoted all her attention to her online community instead. How much can anonymous strangers on the internet be trusted with an unstable person's mental health??? Not at all. All it takes is one troll to unhinge a mentally ill person because they want to see a show. Chris chan has had swathes of provocateurs for over 2 decades now.

In an alternate timeline, Chris chan got the help they needed and was able to live a satisfying life without hurting anybody

Chandler is clearly mentally incapable of understanding the world around them. The fact that we have documented proof this from years and years of their postings online shows us that this is not an act put on to escape jail. She needs to be sent to a place with a lot of padded walls.

Unless it's presented as part of the case as evidence or a deposition, the jury cannot do either of those things.

It's not as easy as that. You can't just throw someone in hospital, depriving them of basic freedom, because you think it's best for them.

Jurors are told to refrain from researching the case on their own, and to only consider the evidence presented during the trial. That's also why they dismiss jurors shown to have prior knowledge of the person-on-trial during the jury selection process.

If its a public defender they are overworked and dont have time to really think about/look into the case. Its why they usually tell their clients to take the plea. They dont have the time available to do anything else.

The lawyer would have to do all the research themselves and present it all as part of the trial for the jury to consider it. They can't just say, "This happened, read more about it online when you get the chance", as that would spoil the jury. Likewise, the Gamestop Sonic incident would have to be shown in the actual trial in the courtroom for it to be used by the jury.

That said, I'd imagine that quite a bit of the Chris Chan saga would be inadmissible as evidence.

Maybe someone with an actual law background could shed more insight on this.

It would almost all be hearsay, other than her own statements, and would not fall under any exceptions to the general rule that hearsay is inadmissible.

Beyond that, I would wager that the vast, vast, vast, vast, VAST majority of anything pulled from online sources (if not literally everything) would be inadmissible by virtue of its risk of prejudice outweighing the probative value of what that would entail.

Given that appointment is likely for monetary reasons, a state-subsidized evaluation by an actual professional is going to be the only thing any not-batshit-insane counsel would seek regarding competency.

Everything on wiki and the recording is essentially hearsay. Hearsay can be admissable if there's other evidence to back it up though. So if the medical examination of Barbara indicates she did have sex with someone and there's no one else but Chris who had the opportunity then the recording could be admitted as a confession provided they can prove it's actually Chris Chan in that recording.

There's a non insignificant chance that someone made up the whole fucking call just to troll Chris Chan.

On one hand she made the decision to do the fucked up shit she did to her mom and there should be some punishment.

On the other hand this seems to be pretty autistic person whose parents didn't know how to take care of her best and let her have free reign on the internet because it kept the child out of the parents hair and only took an interest when the internet invaded their personal lives. PLUS she has been trolled for the last 15 years online. And I don't mean little stuff, I mean hardcore trolling. Tricking the person with Aspergers to do fucked up things and take pictures and send videos because she doesn't know any better. This is a supremely fucked up situation.

Chris/Christine Chan needs to be in a home. Her parents gave NO fucks.
