The combat is turn-based and pretty slow. Doesn't feel like you're doing much. There's a lot of grinding, too. It takes place in a beige/brown world. You play as a young protagonist of ambiguous age and some uninteresting side characters in your party. There's an overworld you can explore that's full of random encounters, and most of the environments all have the same beige/brown look.

The plot of the game isn't that original and doesn't make sense. The dialogue is pretty lame, too.

The beige/brown thing makes me think of Octopath, but one of the characters isn't necessarily young and one of them might have an explicit age rather than an ambiguous one, but I'm not sure. Also I wouldn't describe the combat as feeling like you're not doing anything, cuz if you aren't horribly overleveled, you gotta put a lot of thought into even random encounters.

Honestly, this. Most other JRPG's have a brighter world or cooler companions or nonrandom overworld or a good plot or decent writing.

SotS is the only one to check off all these

Nah, FF8 didn't have grinding unless you were doing it wrong and everyone's a teenager.

It's probably that one game, ya know, that one with the brown.
Not gonna lie I wanna say it's one of the Wild Arms games.

I know that it's a joke, but the beige/brown part makes no sense because JRPGs have almost always been anything but, whereas FPS, action games, and WRPGs have been the real offenders there (mainly in the 360/PS3 era).

Yeah I assumed it was a joke until the weird beige/brown detail that makes it too specific to apply to most jrpgs.
