After a couple of extremely ill-conceived apologies for his recent homophobic remarks, DaBaby is starting to sound more remorseful. I wonder what changed?

On Monday, the rapper posted a statement to Instagram that approximated actual contrition. After briefly lamenting that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow ...and it must be said here that he indeed had multiple opportunitiesDaBaby became more unequivocal.

I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made, he wrote. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important.

When previously addressing the controversy, DaBaby had only managed to dig himself into a deeper hole. To review: In the immediate aftermath of the commentsIf you didnt show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases thatll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter upDaBaby decided to double down on Instagram, writing that his fans take care of themselves because theyre not nasty and have class.

Look if you are gonna give an apology you don't want to give, then at least have it not sound half-assed. You are right that nobody will believe it but at least they won't be able to mock the quality of the writing.

Also donate some money to LGBTQ+ groups or HIV/AIDS organizations.

I'd bet 2.54 that every single user in this topic calling it insincere would say that no matter what his apology was and there would actually be zero way to "sincerely " apologise

it always sounds like nonsense to me.

I remember the last time we had a topic like this and I asked "What would a sincere apology look like?"

And a user said "Steve Austins apology for beating women "

Which for those keeping score, was never apologising, never admitting you did it, lying to the women you abused and then getting people fired for bringing it up.

I like DaBaby, he reminds me of some my family members. Take that for what it is. I would of loved to see a genuine apology where he didn't play victim for something that he completely volunteered to say when no one asked him to. Yeah, what he said applies to other parts of your life, but it literally had no relevance here. You can't just use hardships as a reason to say homophobic shit that's completely unrelated. The hate has got to be stopped somewhere. And this is one those places.

Yeah, I wasnt diagnosed until 2018 when I ended up in the ER with full-blown AIDS, wasting away, but the doctors estimated Id contracted HIV at least 10 years prior.

Awesome your friend is doing well, when did he first learn he had it?

I think the worst part is that he doubled down in his apology.

Everybody intuitively knows there's something wrong with you when you don't learn from your mistakes in a very costly manner. All Da Baby had to do was fake the apology the first time, but he just made itself worse and showed everyone that he so firmly believes this that it means more to him than his successful career.

Don't get me wrong, he has said some unquestionably homophobic shit in the past, but unfortunately that was very much the norm in the rap/hip-hop community back in the day. And frankly nobody is coming for any of that period's artist for their shitty homophobic comments, regardless of race. That excuses none of it, mind you, but the lack of calling out is at least fairly consistent across the board.

But like if Eminem said some homophobic shit now, I absolutely believe he would would get torn up about it.

To me, that sounds more pro-gay. If there's anything he's said in the past that makes him seem homophobic, I would actually kinda be shocked. Slim Shady came out when there was definitely a lot more stigma on being gay, especially in the rap community. I see this as crazy progressive for that time.
