This is the third officer to do so. I can't imagine living with the trauma, of the horrors of Janaury 6th.

I didnt really follow the news on that past people stormed the building and things stolen. What was particularly more tragic and horrifying (for the cops) then a normal riot? Genuinely asking.

It's easy to depersonalize a random riot.

This was an attack on democracy and I imagine people who choose to be Capitol Police feel more strongly about America as an ideal than most cops even care about their own family.

To be attacked by Americans under order of the sitting President, and then for months afterward to be attacked and ridiculed by the people in the building you've sworn to protect because its politically convenient to do so, and after being beaten by people who stormed the Capitol, you're being gaslit and being told "oh it was just a tourist visit!" probably fucks with your psyche hard af.

I know CE isn't patriotic by any stretch but this isn't that hard to understand why someone who is would have a hard time coping.

Ok thanks for the explanation. Didnt even consider the patriotism angle as I assumed they where just regular ass cops and Capitol was just thrown in cause they are cops in the nation's capitol

I'm fairly patriotic myself just not to the point of having the delusion we are the best at everything

Edit: also I wasnt comparing it to a normal riot in any other way than like shit that happened in terms of level of violence.

Exactly. Not to mention the same people who raided the capitol were also pretending to be diehard police supporters for the past four years.

I imagine all of the above could make a capitol officer question everything.
