I have to agree, in cases with assisted suicide with the elderly who choose to go that route. At their age, they're probably well-aware that their body and/or their mind are going to start failing very soon (if it hasn't started already), and they likely want to save themselves and their family that burden.

Depends on why they want to die.

If they are old and terminal or in chronic untreatable pain, sure

If they're like 22 and they're suicidal because their dog died and their boyfriend dumped them then hell no, people like that need saving from themselves.

No they're either dumb or they're very much smart enough to know their situation is hopeless. Something like boyfriend dumping is indeed stupid but something like a struggle with finances and constantly being overworked eg. is different.

But end of the day, people die when they lose meaning in their lives. It's as simple as that. Dont force them to live a life they dont want to

Also I find it VERY HYPOCRITICAL for us as a society to even care only when a person wants to commit suicide? Where are we when this person is suffering in the streets? Homeless? Facing depressing? Struggling day-by-day? We just walk by. We dont give a s*** about other strangers. Even friends abandon each other when they see the person is in depression or something.

But suddenly the person wants to jump off a building and we actually CARE? What the hell is with this hypocrisy?

Well they're jumping off a building for one. That's obstructive and someone has to clean up. They're not caring that the person wants to die, if that person did it quietly, they'd eventually find their body, a few people would call it a tragedy and we would all move on from it next day.

You're basically advocating for letting mentally unwell people diagnose and treat themselves without any external help.

I mean I really don't see how that's different. Struggling with finances and being overworked is a difficult situation, but not a hopeless one.

I'm just saying, maybe there are steps that can be taken between doing nothing and going to the ultimate extreme.

you're already stigmatising them by calling them 'mentally unwell'.
Apparently if you become too sad in life, you become called 'mentally unwell'. You should know these kind of labels do nothing but only further exacerbate these people's perception of themselves.

Yeah their situations may not be 100% hopeless but look close to hopeless. And not many people have the willpower to go and slug it through life hoping by some miracle or something they'll hit the jackpot or get back on their feet one day. Also just pushing through that is further suffering.

Lastly, we never asked to be born in the first place so why should everyone be forced to live if they dont want to?

Well they don't. That's why we don't help those people. It's simply that when you do something in the public eye, it makes it harder to ignore. Like if you saw a homeless man, you might ignore that. If he started taking a dump, you might ignore that. If he went to the top of a building and screamed about how he will take a dump, that's difficult to ignore.

Well if he wants to do it, he can. You're simply telling him that he can't and maybe you can try to wrestle the bottle away but he can go do it when no one's looking if he wants that drink.

I'm 100% happy to "stigmatise" someone as unwell if they plan to end their life over financial hardships well before their 30s. I mean that's just fucking nuts to end your life over. Someone like that needs help, not euthanasia.

I'm advocating for mental health funding and care, not advocating for making fun of people who are having a hard time.
