I wouldn't say it was the hood but it was pretty damn close.

Last year the house across the street got shot at. I don't personally do any hood shit tho. I spent my time avoiding those situations

In my Elementary School years I lived in the Black Projects (1978 to 1983).

Aside from the Main Street businesses I was from one of three other white families in the area.

See the White Peoples Projects was like eight miles out of the way from my school and I wasn't registered in theirs.

Plus it would have added about several miles to my Dads work.

Was the first time I seen people killed.

One was shot and another hit by lightning.

Moved away in my Jr and High School days.

Moved back when I got out on my own since I knew people from there and I was safe because they knew me.

Where I was weened on boozing too.

Also when I take a trip back home I always visit or do a drive through.

Pretty much the same since the late 70s and late 90s aside from porch roofs and windows being updated.

Also the reservoir still seems to flood.

You'd figure after 40 years they'd had fix this by now.

I seen the dude that got shot when I was like 11.

Me and a girl from school was walking down the sidewalk to meet her sister and my sister to take a trip to the park.

Some guy leans out of a parked Green Ford Pinto Station Wagon with the faux wood siding and yelled for our attention.

We just assumed that they were just some creeps and ran to her house.

Told the Mom but no real action was taken.

About 10 minutes later the dude comes walking down the sidewalk holding his side and we could see blood leaking through his fingers.

He went in between her house and a building and some trees.

The Mom finally called the police and eventually we saw him being carted off under a sheet.

I didn't see the lightning thing.

Just heard a loud boom and minutes later some shouting and screaming.

Me and my sis went outside to see and seen a guy laying on the sidewalk.

Then we hear the sound of the stereotypical bossy sounding big black lady... "You Kids Get Back In The House"... forgot her name.

I seen my neighbors pull a big ass gun out their car and point it down the street at some people they were arguing with and then tucked in back into the car and went inside. I don't like the idea of getting involved and I felt like it wouldn't of made my life any easier. Besides, it wasn't being pointed at my house. There was never any shooting that came from the house before they moved out, so it is what it is. Someone also set their car on fire. By the time I noticed, it was a huge ball of flames. Couldn't even tell there was a car under it.

I saw this once, I was almost at my house and some guy was arguing with another guy down the block. Pulls out a gun from his car and just let's off a shot in dudes general direction.

The best way I can describe the places I grew up in were small poor Asian neighborhoods that were inside of larger poor Black neighborhoods. Within these poor Asian neighborhoods (at least the ones I've lived in), there seems to always be a high concentration of Vietnamese gangbangers that terrorized the placed.

I remember in one area I lived in, there was a crazy police choice that lead to the perpetrator's and the cop's cars winding up in our backyard doing drifts and shit.

In the same neighborhood, a guy got into a physical fight with a girl and beat the fuck out of her/stomped her out so bad you could see his shoe prints on the side of her head. Dude was the known local popular tough guy/fuckboy and not only openly bragged about it for weeks, but he pretty much got away with it because no one was going to point him out. The girl's family ended moving away.

There's also small cliques of Bosnian kids spread throughout these places who stuck close together and they were always hood as fuck.

And, of course, there was a gunfight that happened right in my backyard some years ago and a bullet went through my wind and into my wall while I was in the room. I made a topic about it when it happened.

I didn't grow up in the hood...but just outside.

My town right now has been completely gentrified.
But my mother used to work in a community center in the 80's.
I was sorta actually treated worse for that in the hood....which is backwards.
~As if I didn't belong, even though my family didn't really have any money.

She passed a few years later, and there is still a tree growing in her remembrance at that sight.

It was a learning experience.

I lived in Baltimore when I was a kid. A kid I used to play with in the apartment next to us found his dad's gun and shot himself. I remember seeing a bunch of police cars and an ambulance and my mom was crying. He was only 4.
