A couple of people have done things like this over the years. I remember a guy that used "Who is" for everything like decades ago.

Why? If you don't have to use the correct who what when where? Because it's faster to say? "Izzit"

Because the "who" or "what" response is the question that would prompt the clue that's read. "Is it" is clunky.

For instance:

"What is a natatorium?"
"An indoor swimming pool."

Jeopardy just reverses the exchange. Compared to...

"Is it a natatorium?"
"Hm, what? Is what a natatorium?"

It makes the conversation clunky.

But we all know what we're doing because it's a game show. Imo using the wrong w word is just as clunky lol. Just seems arbitrary.

In the early days of the Art Fleming version if you didn't you'd be asked to say it again correctly, but they found it was slowing the game a lot and just stopped giving a crap about it.

(Technically they'll allow anything that's a question, even if the formatting doesn't make any sense. Like a few times players have skated by after asking "Is it [x]?)

They don't allow it in that form. I think that's one of the things they go over with the contestants before the filming starts.

He came so close to setting the all-time Coryat record. His final score was $39,000, which is second only behind Ken Jennings's $39,200. By measure of Coryat, it was more dominant than any of Holzhauer's games, since I think the highest he ever scored was in the neighborhood of $38,000.

Isn't it true that technically all the players could have read the question in a huge text book study guide that is given to them prior to filming the show? So essentially it's not how knowledgeable you are but how good your memory and pronunciation is.

He throws "What's" out at the beginning to get the question out of the way and give himself more time to think about the response.

English is a language where the only way to know how something is pronounced is you have to hear someone else say it due to all the inconsistences.

contestants, especially ones that do really good, don't typically ring in unless they already know what they're going to give for an answer. ringing in when you don't know the answer and hoping it will come to you in the second or two you have to say something after you rung in is a very bad strategy.

I mean he was 43/46 yesterday and is 211/241 overall.

The real killer for me is the people facing him are letting him hunt for the Daily Doubles.

Like yesterday, Matt was running through the bottom of the board (including the triple stumper), but then Dana got the last one on the bottom right, and then immediately went for the $400 clue in the same category? Why the fuck?

Yeah, you immediately know the game is over when he's knocking out the $800 or $1000 clues in the Jeopardy round, and one of the other contestants gets control of the board and goes for one of the top-level clues. Like, come on, guys.

You know it's interesting that he didn't start farming the bottom row until Monday, Game 4. Something changed

But I'm actually kind of curious to see what happens to him if he or someone else hits the DD within the first two or three clues. I know he's hunting but somehow the earliest the first DD has been found in any of his games is 10th, so by the point he's found it (if it's him) he already has a ton of money to wager.

That's how Holzhauer ended up being defeated. He hit the first DD on the very first clue of the game, then Boettcher got both of them in DJ.

Holzhauer was hitting on huge wagers but apparently this guy is at least as dominant on the board for a few games. It's worth mentioning.

Holzhauer bet huge on DDs, while Amodio is content to wager $2000 in DJ after going all in on the first round like he should (like everyone should!). That's the big difference between them.
