Probably need new drivers. What was the old GPU, and what's the New GPU?

Do you have a second slot to try?
Does it not turn on at all or does it at least get some fucking light (the motherboard, not the gpu)

No I'm using the same gpu. It's uhhh an msi something. 480 I think.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Fuck really?? So I have to get a new gpu? The gpu seems to run fine when not plugged in to the pcie guys

You dont need a top of the line GPU, just get a small upgrade, if you dont play games in your PC, try to get something on the same level.

Does anything happen when you turn it on? Any fan movement, even for like a second?

If it's totally dead silent with the GPU in, then you either need to be a whizz at electronics and soldering, to test, find, remove and replace the offending component(s).

Otherwise you'll need a new one. Do you have another GPU, another pc, an old one, a friend's, etc, you can test with first?
With the pcie plugged in? Yeah it starts up for a split second then turns off.

I am not that

None of those, no.

Does anyone have any recommendations? The one I have is an msi 480. It's like 5 years old so I figure there's probably one out there that is better slightly for under 200? Or is it even worse than I thought

what happens if you plug in the hdmi to the motherboard assuming it has a slot for it

Hmm if you get like a second of power that's different to a grounded GPU. Grounded GPUs literally ground the PSU so no power flows in the PC.

You said you just changed PSU? Does the new one have enough wattage versus the old one?
Hmmm I'm learning some stuff here.

Yeah, it is 500w compared to the previous 450

My first guess would be PSU, if not just because that's the cheapest and "easiest" thing to swap out. If you have a spare PSU or a spare video card that needs its own power, even an old shitty one, that'd be a good swap to narrow it down.

You could also wait a bit and order a PSU tester for a hell of a lot cheaper than either, one that has a test port for 6/8 pin PCI-E devices as well as the main ATX connector

Yeah not all motherboards have video output, but look for one, even old style like VGA/DVI, etc.

Oh, hmm, more wattage should cover it fine then.

There could still be an issue with the GPU/PSU that is going to be hard to test without a second GPU and/or computer to test your GPU in.

I'm a multi pc household so my debugging steps always follow this path, unsure what else to try...
It has hdmi and it does not display anything.

It could be the PSU? I just bought it wtf....

Yeah I mean I have a gpd win but nothing that can actually fit any of the parts...

I've already replaced the PSU, I think this one is probably fine

GPU is not compatible with the main board?

Settings in the BIOS?

My guess...

You could need to go to a local store.

Honestly, the first thing I thought when I saw this topic was that you were not connecting both power connectors to the graphics card. So that would be the simplest solution; you changed the power supply and didn't realize that the graphics card used both the 6 and 8 pin PCIe power connectors

Have you tried resetting your cmos batter on the mother board? Maybe a power setting is being weird. It's the button battery on it, just take it out and put it back in

But you said your power supply died before? Do you know if maybe it took out some other components with it? It's get another psu, different brand, and it your PC is still dead yeah maybe the old psu killed your ram or something
