I'm worried the same thing is going to happen with my dad. He's 60, overweight, high blood pressure.

I've been begging him to get vaccinated, but he refuses because the vaccine is "experimental" (a favorite buzzword of anti-vax propaganda, ugh).

When I tell him his chance of dying from the disease is literally 1,000,000x greater than dying from vaccine side effects, he just tells me he'll take his chances and that he "has to die some day anyway".

It's maddening that you'd only apply that stupid fatalistic outlook to the disease that's already killed 600,000+ americans, but not to the imagined dangers of the vaccine. It's like suicidal behavior. Like fucking brainworms.

Lost an Uncle to COVID last year.
My advice is to make sure all her legal stuff like a will is up to date just in case.
With our Uncle, since the hospitals were on lockdown, we could not visit so we could not ask about his legal status and the hospital, in my opinion dropped the ball and did not either, and so he did not update his will and now an ex from 25 years ago is contesting everything. Still ongoing 8 months later.

Hope everything works out.

it helps he has it right now so hes isolated at their place but I wont lie and say it hadnt crossed my mind multiple times so far

Hope everything comes out okay. My friend's mom in Argentina is recovering from COVID related pneumonia. I think the prognosis is good now, and he's been in better spirits since the turnaround.

if it helps, two older ladies I do landscaping work for in their 70s got the virus back in october and had very mild symptoms and both made a 100% recovery with zero long term effects. No breathing problems, kept their taste, etc. One of them already had severe heart problems and could literally die any day, and she still sailed through it.

So there's plenty of hope. It's more likely she'll be fine than not so try to relax and give her encouragement through it all. Sending everybody bounds of positive healing energy.

One of my uncles refuses to get vaccinated. He's very into the homeopathic medicine bs. And the more crazy part is that we lost my grandma and my other uncle to covid last year, so he knows how dangerous it is. We keep trying to get him to vaccinate but he thinks he's immune or some shit. It's difficult to get through.

His mom is already in the hospital, she already has worse symptoms than the two ladies you referenced in your anecdote

we're sorry if this is off topic. but the virus was way different a year ago. the mutations before delta had a lower viral load (people didn't get as sick in most cases), delta is way more serious compared to the others as it can generate a ton of virus particles inside the body before the immune system kicks in.
