This really isn't Nintendo's fault. Due to the way the service is structured, the major third party companies don't want to essentially give away their games for free, especially when some of them may already have them available as paid collections on the eShop. That's why we keep getting games from old, small and/or defunct companies.

And Nintendo's own well of first party titles has pretty much run dry, as I think EarthBound is the only one left from them to add (Super Mario RPG is on Square-Enix).

They structured the service in the first place. Are you gonna try to tell me that the most history rich video game company in the world, in the middle of a very profitable period for their company, cant afford to clear the rights for some good games.

Square-Enix can give Sony Final Fantasy VII Remake as a Plus game but Nintendo can't figure out Super Mario RPG or Chrono Trigger? They can't add more platforms?

It's this bad because Nintendo are cheapskates.

I stopped for a minute because I remembered some claymation fighting game from back then and I was like "Oh cool, i'll play that again" but the game I was thinking of is ClayFighter. Zero interest in any of these games, give us something like the Super Star Wars trilogy at least.

There's only a few 3rd party companies who are involved. Nintendo isn't really accommodating to most of the major publishers (i.e. $$$)

I still think the VC format is stupid for retro games, and streaming should be the most appropriate for them in theory, but given the selection, this isn't better.

If you create a Nintendo account registered for Japan, you can play Japanese-exclusive titles in the NSO libraries. There's a DYKG vid on how to do this. Seems fairly simple, considering the Switch isn't region-locked.

they need to just import the entire eshop/VC over. granted i'm sure nintendo lost most of the licenses to sell them now. they should have just had it from the start. at least what the wii u had. they could have still done the free games with online since majority of people wouldn't buy them anyways.

Earthbound contained drugs/mature content so is not suitable for children despite the game art design trying to convince u otherwise

Claymates is the best of the three

The thing I hate about this is a lot of the games they add are perfectly fine. This is the kind of stuff that would typically be called (and I typically dislike this phrase) a "hidden gem" by many. But by adding only them instead of also including the standard classics, it just sets them up for unfair criticism and bashing, when it's not the games' or 3rd party publishers' fault.
