Current Events > Trying to convince a friend to go to rehab again, this time for 3 month.

She's super smart and talented, just got married, bought a house. She has so much going for her....but the house is in the boonies, she's bored as fuck and started drinking heavily again to try to cope.

Both me and the husband are trying to coordinate to get her to check in, but it's hard not to damage somebodies pride in a situation like this and if we push too hard it's never gonna happen.

Anybody have experience with anything like this? I know rehab will help, she just lacks coping skills to deal with the boredom/depression she's dealing with on the day to day(This is by her own admission, not me judging her.)

Getting people to accept help before they bottom out never works.

She's going to have to want to make that change.

Maybe she's just not happy. She needs to find her own reasons to not drink.

In my experience, if the person doesnt want help and doesnt really want to go, they will just get out then go right back to doing the thing. Ive seen it countless times now in my life.

Generally speaking, you cant convince an addict, they have to come to the realization for themselves. All the people I know that got sober, be it alcohol or opioids, did so because they hit a bottom, and they decided for themselves that enough was enough.

Every case is obviously different, but youre definitely fighting an uphill battle trying to convince them into sobriety.
