Body camera video released by the NYPD on Wednesday shows Crowell agitated as he's confronted by officers, cursing and making a veiled threat at one of them, leading one of the officers to say, "go ahead."

It is in article.

Crowell was charged with third degree menacing, second degree harassment, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. None of the charges stemmed from him allegedly assisting someone farebeating, an infraction the Manhattan District Attorney has declined to prosecute since 2017, issuing summonses instead.

As mention the crime that started this is not something people get arrested for.

Nothing he possibly could have said would warrant that. Consevstives are always going on about its just words, fuck your feelings get over it!, but theyre quick to justify cops acting like this just because they had their feelings hurt. And I bet you the only charge will be resisting arrestan arrest that wasnt justified in the first place.

You just pay a fine. Its like getting a parket ticket. Imagine 10 cops surrounding someone and tasing them because they dont want to get arrested over a parking ticket.

Worst case lets say he evaded the fare. All of this is over $2.75. That not worth tasing the guy for. It a give him a ticket and let him be.

He was already being ganged up on at that point. I dont blame the untrained citizen for not acting completely rational, especially when he could have become the next George Floyd. Fuck that shit. Until the cops get their shit together and fix their broken system theyre to blame for that shit. Not the innocent citizen. Especially the NYPD. Whether you 'blame him' (?) or not for making the choice to resist arrest and fight the police, he still necessitated more force from the officers in order for them to keep him under control. The correct response when you are approached by the police is to be calm, answer questions, make no sudden moves, and accept the handcuffs if they come out. Be reasonable. If you're actually worried about becoming a victim, and aren't just looking for excuses to resist arrest, then you're better off complying. Your chances of being injured or killed during an arrest are higher if you're fighting, shouting, and trying to escape than if you just accept the arrest and let it go to court.

If you just accept that you got caught, accept that the police have the lawful right to detain/arrest you, and accept that you will have your day in court...you will be much better off.

No, actually, the correct response when you're being swarmed by police officers when you did nothing and you feel threatened is to defend yourself. If they go immediately to this level of force, they're responsible when someone gets spooked. Make a scene, make it known you're being abused, and don't rely on a justice system we know isn't reliable unless you're rich.

Sorry, nothing about this is horrible advice. Your argument only holds weight as long as you can reasonably trust an officer to show restraint and a department to show accountability.

"If you comply he might shoot tou, if you don't he will" is not a good argument for complying.

It costs way more to have swarms of officers watch the turnstiles than is ever lost due to jumpers.

The advice isnt to do it. The problem is fight or flight exists. People are already scared of cops since theyve shown time and time again to be trigger happy with no consequence. Its not easy to tell an untrained citizen just remain clam and do as they say, thats a problem in itself since cops shouldnt be able to do anything they want because if you act up you might get murdered.

the problem lies within our police system. Its corrupt, its bull shit, and THEY need to change. Not the citizens.
