It's been Osaka from Azumanga Daioh for a while now. Like A WHILE a while.

She's always been my favorite character in that show and I really identified with her outlook on life.

But I wonder if I should have something unique to me instead of just something someone else made.

Part of me bandies about the idea of getting an artist to make a cartoon pic of my face (but blocky brown-haired white dude is even less unique) or a logo of some kind.

Maybe a logo would be good but it'd have to be pfp sized and banner sized. Like somehow taking the C and Z in my name and working it into a small logo, but having the full name be the banner logo.

Would that be dumb? Do I need a marketing department?

It's not like people see profile pics much. Designing a logo for yourself might be fun if you're into stuff like that, though.

Why do you think those around you care about your pfp? I don't mean this as a personal attack, but I neve even look at users pfp or profile. If you're changing it, you should change it to whatever you want it to be. If you're interested in attempting to form a brand, you can follow the lead of all the twitter pfp's out there and commission someone to make a cartoon caricature of yourself. Honestly though, not enough people go abstract with their profile portraits.

Why restrict yourself at all though? You're modeling your pfp off of those you've seen and interacted with. If it means enough to you that you're this deep in thought over it why not take the time to find something truly representative of yourself and use that, regardless of the outward perception of it? Make a symbol, or a flag, or work on a logo that you feel is representative of you and build on that.

Well it wouldn't just be here, but also Twitter, Reddit, Discord, etc.

Like I was surprised how a lot of people seem to recognize me and my work by the Osaka pic.

It's only been a few but people have made jokes like "only anime pfp I respect".
