Had a MySpace 15 years ago for my band at the time, heh, but of course that's long inactive. I'm a hiring manager so I'm forced to have a LinkedIn for recruiting purposes but I've never posted publicly on it. I stopped using Amazon shopping (though AWS is unavoidable) and replaced Google search with DuckDuckGo. My thoughts on not having social media is it feels liberating. I don't feel obligated to comment on the news, express opinions, share updates, or "perform" online. I don't have to pay attention to any of the drama or misleading info. Whenever possible I want to avoid feeling like a product. It's done wonders for my mental health and happiness. My wife still has hers and sometimes she'll get really bummed out by whatever mean/wrong/aggressive thing someone on her Instagram said. The downside is I wonder occasionally whether acquaintances warm up to me more slowly because I don't advertise facts or photos about myself online -- info like that is a small talk shortcut. Not having it visible might make me less accessible. Like I've worked with people for years who have no idea I'm a life-long basketball fan, that I love rock climbing, or that I speak French... that sort of thing.
