on one hand, the feel of a book can be nice, and it's cool having something tangible on a shelf, but I prefer using the Kindle app on my phone to read.

I have a bunch of physical books, but at this point, if I feel like reading any of them, I just buy a Kindle version.

Reading a full book on a screen sucks. Real books are so much better.

Not if it's on a kindle screen. I'm mostly fine either way though.

No way. Reading books on electronic screens suck, plus I like the ease of being able to pick up/put down.

I cannot stand reading physical books whatsoever. Physical is probably still on top at the moment, but feels like it must be at least in the process of turning into more of a niche thing for people who like collecting them. Digital books are just so much more convenient and less cumbersome.

There's definitely still place for second hand book stores. Bring able to buy a long series for a few bucks a book can be much cheaper than paying Kindle prices

Digital books are so much more convenient for me, mostly because I don't have a lot of space to spare for physical and I like to travel.

I like fantasy books with maps and appendices. Physical book is always better for that. For books that don't have them, I go with the Kindle version.

It sounds like maybe you have never experienced a kindle screen. Kindle use something called E-Ink

It looks just like real print on a page. Kindle wouldn't be popular as they are if they didn't have E-Ink. That's the main feature of their success

Most people don't understand what the big deal is with kindle until they see a kindle screen in person

Yeah, after trying a Kindle for the first time, I plowed through like six books in a row because it was so much better than trying to read on my phone.

They're not obsolete, but, in a very late-stage capitalism way, they're more of a luxury the "first world" your region is. If you read a lot, a kindle ends up being cheaper and more convenient: ebooks are generally cheaper than physical counterparts, and they take up a lot less space. In the opposite direction, electricity and internet are going to be limited.

I can't even do comics/manga on a screen at all. Something about flipping pages just makes the sense of movement from panel-to-panel come alive.

I read ebooks on my phone. I like the black background against white text because it saves battery (using amoled screen). Also prefer reading in the dark with no light but the phone.

Some books actually are be better in non digital format tho such as house of leaves but mainly because of its gimmick. Other books have lots of foot notes too but kindle app usually lets you click on the foot notes and you can read it from same page. Not all tho for some reason.

Also kindle app has its own built in dictionary so can just highlight unfamiliar words and it gives u the definition on the same page.

I have a B&N Nook that uses E Ink.

It looks fine enough when using actual ebooks but it's trash when it comes to reading PDFs. Also, organizing all my books is a nightmare on the device as well.

I've also used a Kindle Fire for PDFs, it's better for that use but still has a different feel than holding an actual book in my hands.

I have an extensive collection of art books, some I even have as PDFs and I must say that the physical versions are superior in nearly every way.
