I maintain it's better than Metroid 1.
Respectfully disagree, but I also played it on OG gameboy so it probably had something to do with it. Those screens were impossible to even SEE, let alone the monochromatic nature of the things. I had to sit under a friggin' 100W bulb lamp just to play it haha.

Most of those things are complains about the gameboy though, which for the record I was never a fan of (even the color version, and I "tolerated" the GBA). I wouldn't fault Metroid 2 for it because it worked well within the confines of the system. The game had to be more linear with more save spots due to the nature of handheld gaming in general, and I think it did a great job of doing that.

As much as I love the original SaGa (Final Fantasy Legend) games, I maintain that my dislike of the Gameboy was primarily having to play them on it because those games were not designed well for that system. Would have been much better if they came out on the NES.

After 16 years, I have decided my signature will NOT be about my job! But I still don't know what to put here so...yea...

Oh for sure- it's probably not a very fair assessment on my part, it's just that my overall experience with the NES game was a lot better and I played it a ton more often. I even bought the 3DS remake of Metroid 2 but kind of got bored with it after clearing the first couple sections.

Hey, was this the one where you were an escaped gladiator at the beginning? I thought it was Final Fantasy (something) but was an action RPG. I remember if you equipped an axe you could cut down trees that were in your way and stuff like that.

If so, I had that one and man it was a blast!

I remember having my little mind blown when I figured out you could change the color scheme on an old GB game, when you played it on a GBA and pressed different buttons at the startup screen

That's Final Fantasy Adventure... or Seiken Densetsu 1 (Sword of Mana)

Yeah, that doesn't sound great. I don't know how I played my GBC and GBA back in the day. There's no going back after you've experienced backlit screens

I'm currently playing Wario Land 3 for the Gameboy Colour(on my 3DS).

It's kind of like a Metroidvania and you get to play as Wario.

Wario Land 3 owns. One of my favorite games as a kid. You're right, it does have Metroidvania elements.

I surmise it's because we had no other options, so compared to Hoop On a Stick it was great!

Yeah man, I'll say. I snagged a refurbished gba AGS-101 and it makes my gbc games look really good. And of course the gba games look better too, I just noticed a huge difference when playing the Dragon Warrior 1&2 combo cart on it.
