I'm not big into tv, much less anime, but I like the darker vibe and the... More realistic fighting (as in no shooting magical lighting out of swords or growing wings and flying around or whatever shit). The post apocalyptic setting does it for me too

Like I also loved the Berserk movies and even liked the anime series. I like seeing people actually sword fight and shit, not just shoot lighting out of their swords and turn into six winged angels or something lol

I still think IBO is a good jumping point into the franchise. Otherwise try the trilogy of movies they recently added into Netflix to get into the Universal Century continuity, or Gundam The Origin.

Eighty-Six. Mostly realistic, but be prepared for the feels... Part 2 coming in October.

And if you want to keep the feels coming, I also highly recommend Tokyo Revengers (currently ongoing) and The Promised Neverland (I promise it's not as cutesy as it looks, finish 1 episode and see)

Already seen those and made it about halfway through the og Gundam but it's a bit old school lol. Also watched Gundam wing back in the day

This is a good shout actually. The fights are unrealistic but in the way an action movie is unrealistic. Everyone's using guns and knives, you just also have a maid that's running down a truck like the Terminator.

both 91 Days and Vinland Saga are about revenge before they're about anything else, and the latter has some cool sword action.

anyway, if you haven't seen it, Sword of the Stranger has some of the best combat animation that I've seen, but it's a movie.

Dororo is also cool, but it takes place in a fantasy setting of Japan, even though the protagonist mostly uses swords.

I'm talking about the 2018 or 2019 series and not the original, btw.

Brotherhood follows the manga, but I recommend watching both. Brotherhood rushes through the early parts of the story and the first one is great in its own right.

Cells At Work: Code Black, if you're looking to feel bad. It personifies the cells/parts of the human body as characters and places, but this one specifically is a spinoff that takes place in the body of a really unhealthy person that smokes and drinks and shit, so it goes heavy on the feeling of hopelessness as the characters try to cope with doing their job in a futile environment. It's not funny, it's not wacky, it's played 100% serious as a drama.

Legitimately one of the darkest, saddest cartoons I've ever watched.

Also, for my actual recommendations look into Baccano! and Ninja Scroll is a pretty sick movie too but it got a lot of fantastical shit in it like it got this guy who can throw a sword and it fucks a bunch of people up and chops down some trees. Oh theres that puppet show Thunderbolt Fantasy that is hella dope too

Deca-Dence is a pretty good post-apocalyptic show with similar combat and a similar "last of humanity surviving against monsters" vibe to Attack On Titan, though it's not quite as dark and has one major twist that makes it different. It's a wild ride and (IMO) one of the best anime of last year.

I also second the other mentions of Black Lagoon, Trigun, Gurren Lagann, and Cowboy Bebop.
