I guess losing 50ish lbs will make people want to compliment you, but it made me realize that I don't know how to take a compliment, I just kinda freeze up and go "uhhh thanks"

I get compliments pretty often but either I ignore them completely or don't take them seriously and have a laugh. Talk is cheap.

Because abs are a huge waste of time for the amount of effort you have to put in. Only serious fitness competitors or pro athletes like sprinters should bother with ab work.

I meant concentrated ab work to get a 6 pack. You said before to him to go for abs (I infer 6 pack) without being underweight. Which is very difficult to achieve and even harder to maintain. The kind of people I mentioned have time for that because it's their job to be training all the time. You can get a strong core by doing full body exercises like squats or pull ups while making the rest of you look good too.

Dangerous, too. To get abs to show, you usually have to have less than 10 percent body fat. But doctors recommend 15 body fat for men (and 20 for women) And apparently, continuous abs workouts can be bad for the body. Including possibly becoming hunchback Seriously Lots of other bad stuff, as well And in the end, apparently, the average women doesnt actually care about it when looking for a partner. They apparently prefer flat stomach (or even a little flab). Which I understand. I find average bodies more attractive than 6-packs

Idk. I read for chiseled abs, you need less than 10 percent body fat. So, while maintaining 12-15 isnt than bad (since doctors recommend closer to 15 for men), having less is actually not healthy for your body. Possibly causing things like reduced bladder control and a weakened immune system. Not for everyone, though. And not actually that easy to maintain, from what Ive read The article even mentioned to be careful with rigorous ab workouts, as well If its for a short time, its sometimes ok, but even then

I didn't mean to come off too argumentative. Yes diet helps a lot with getting abs to show. Most men have decent ab muscles already they just covered up by belly fat. Even a small amount is enough to cover them up. You still have to put in much work to budge that belly fat and keep it gone. Your body naturally wants to store fat there and it's very stubborn even if you eating properly. Time which I think could be better spent elsewhere where gains happen faster, instead of all the constant obsession with this one area. Which as mentioned women don't care about anywhere as much as men. I roll my eyes when I see guys killing themselves to impress girls with this abs thing. Or with other men like their gym buddies or on the gay scene who care far too much.

Dropping body fat in the first place will take effort but once you get there, maintaining is much less difficult. But people don't want to hear that you don't need to choose between abs and eating Chipotle / Ben and Jerry's, you can have both if you have good habits most of the time

Hard to believe. Only because I hear different from literally every source from people talking about it to articles. Not trying to say you're lying. But every source I find talks about how maintaining them is just as hard as getting them...

Also, it depends on what kind of food you get. You can't really eat anything with a higher sodium count, as you'd have to cut way down on sodium to keep a six-pack. So Chipotle (and many other fast foods) are out...

I mean that's what your original post implied when you told him "go for abs" next. Anybody reading that would automatically assume 6 pack because that's what people mean when they say abs in a fitness conversation. Don't get the wrong idea I'm not against fitness at all (quite the opposite) it's the ab obsession men have that irritates me. It's a giant waste of time. Just do proper full body exercise and you'll get good abs anyways just not ripped. If TC really wants more compliments he should just do a lot of squats to get a big butt while helping out his core at the same time.

You're actually touching on an important distinction here, but in the wrong direction.

The amount of body fat you need for essential functions does not scale linearly with your lean mass. The more lean mass you add, the lower your safe minimum body fat percentage will be, because your essential body fat is partly made up of things that don't "store fat."

Someone with essentially zero additionally developed muscle mass (or in severe cases of long term atrophy) would certainly need a higher % body fat for essential functions, compared to someone who lifts weights and has packed on lean mass.

And that makes sense. Different tissues require different amounts of fat to function well. Nervous tissue needs plenty, but muscles not as much. Thus by adding muscle mass, you decrease the minimum body fat % for healthy function. (and in fact the muscular person could have a greater total fat mass than the underweight person).

I havent read that, or found anything saying that online. I heard the percentage stays the same. But based on you body size, the amount can change (but thats because the percentage stays the same). Thats just based on research Ive pick up on this along the years But I dont see how that would change anything. You mention how muscles wont need as much body fat to function, but that should matter. More muscles dont mean less body parts that need fat to function. The rest of the body should still need the same amount of fat to function The muscles were already there, even if they werent worked on or smaller. And with the muscles, you still should have the rest of the body that needs the essential body fat

It's how the body fat calculation, which is a percentage, works. If you add muscle mass but keep the same fat mass, your body fat percentage goes down. Because your denominator (total mass) has increased, while the numerator (fat mass) stayed the same.

Muscles are dense (AFAIK), meaning you could have less fat (number wise). But the percentage you need doesnt change. Just the amount. Like when you get taller. The amount you need changes, but not the percentage

So, it seems like in both cases more muscles or getting taller), you would probably need MORE body fat, tbh Since in both cases, there would be more body At least, according to the information I read

TC, first have a compliment(and insult) ready for everyone youre talking to. When they compliment you then let one half of your mouth curl upwards and smile with it.
