Rap music is pretty bad. Rapping itself uses voice like a percussion instrument. There is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that lyrics matter in rapping, thus the rapping is treated like a solo. It's as if Rap is full of an overabundance of drum solos, missing interesting basslines and completely devoid of melody. It's as if someone went to a piano and started slamming one key over and over and over. Because of this, rap music now often is mixed with general hip hop so the song goes hip hop-->rapping-->hip hop-->rapping. The rapper is some big-name dude. Punk is essentially just rock music with an emphasis on instrumentation and drums. The singer often has a very very limited range.
