I was thinking earlier that I can do Python but I am not really a programmer. I've decided to take this course. It's free, and you can upgrade to a cert at any time. It teachers core fundamentals of programming. You should take it with me, fam. Just click where it asks if you're interested in a verified certificate from edX.

https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/2021/

I'll check that out tomorrow! Been out all day with my girlfriend after Japanese class. So tired.

I just finished week 0 of the course. It has you watch a 1h45m lecture, followed by creating a mini project on Scratch. Never used Scratch before but it's easy and kinda fun. Think I spent ~3 hours on my project, but most of it was trying to think of an interesting / random story and figuring out which things to use. I have until the end of the year to submit it so I may hold off for a week or so to submit in case I think of something else.

Now I'm going to play Ocarina of Time and start week 1 tomorrow.

Havent heard back from them. I also emailed the agent and interviewer. I mean, if I haven't got it at least they could tell me so I could stop badgering them. Maybe its still too early to tell.

Tested a few stuff today. Managed to push something on to the remote server successfully, so thats working again.

Also wanted to look through more tutorials but a lack of time means I got to wait till tomorrow after Japanese class. I'll be going out with my gf too so hopefully tomorrow night should be a good time for me to sit down and spend some time on PyCharm.

I've been going through free courses from Udemy, but I've stopped them for a while to practice trying to make more practical code. I've gotten stuck quite a few times, actually got the mind to revise the basics again.

That is literally the motivation I have for learning to program.

I also recommend taking a computer science course or teaching yourself more about computer science.

Im glad this topic is having an effect here. More people who join the better. We can all learn from each other.

On that note I'm going to start posting my new code here once I make them like I did before. Feel free to take any of it, if its useful.

I'm learning Python to help build myself a programming resume as a business information systems major.

It'd also be cool to try and build out some concepts for games I have but I also recognize the multidisciplinary skillsets such projects require like art, particularly animations.

You're probably way ahead of me. I literally started learning a few months ago and have made a few text-based games and some small programs that work adequately. Trying to get to the point where I can actually show off my knowledge on my CV and put it down as a basic skill. Right now its in the hobby section of my CV.

Not necessarily. I've mostly had to take business gen-eds and pre-reqs so far. My academic experience is only in SQL, which while useful, is sort of not a 'real' programming language.

I also installed KDE Ubuntu on my laptop. which has been an up and down experience

Some truly weird things can arise. For example if I launch libreoffice from the terminal it's scaled correctly, but when I launch it from the start menu it's super zoomed out. One must ponder how such a disparity can even arise

I decided to buy this course as there's another flash sale going on

https://www.udemy.com/course/the-web-developer-bootcamp/

I can't personally recommend it, as I've only watched section 1, but supposedly it's one of, if not the best web development courses to take. Right now It's only $20 which seems like a great investment if you're into learning about JavaScript and databases and stuff and are looking into getting a career in that area. I'm also still taking the CS50 course, so between those two courses I'll be busy for the rest of the year. All the while still trying to make time for Python.
