-call me a singa fan because I'm voting for B'z haha-- I'm sorry
-one thing I randomly remember from very old VGMCs is that I was pretty hard on Dark Messenger back in those days-- I think it was just a general sense of 'this track is bombastic and the melody is totally unengaging', like Kuja is strutting into the ring with stadium rock playing; I'm marginally positive on this track at this point
-the actual THIRD siren/alarm track in this VGMC. wondered if my opinion has changed on this substantially since last year-- not really! still compelling in some ways, scattered and safe in others, not fully engaged the whole way through

THE WIND IS PUSHING ME. this reminds me of "Let it Die" from the video game "Let it Die". nothing against Blue Line tho. its pretty good for what it is. best jon bois video bgm ive heard, and ive watched quite a bit of jon bois.

ok im oddly tired today and this match feels very hard to explain so uhhh just have a vote

oh i actually like both of these. Towards the Horizon appeals to my "im a very normie jrpg boy who just wants to jam out to cool orchestral music with electronic elements", while Flightless appeals to my "i like PROG MUSIC like dream theater but with WEIRD ELECTRONIC EFFECTS and this song makes me feel CONFUSED sometimes with the transitions. oh boy if only there was somebody else in the contest who also enjoyed prog music and weird electronic stuff and confusion as an emotion i bet they'd REALLY LIKE this song." in the end, Flightless is "good" throughout and i probably would not listen to it again, while Towards the Horizon is "great" throughout and i would put that in my playlist, so that's my pick.

MATCH 1

The rock part of Into Free is really cool! The chorus is super catchy, but that slight buildup to the chorus at 1:20 is too.

Blue Line's a nice song, but Into Free's more my thing. I think Into Free's style is more engaging to me compared to the soft jazz of Blue Line.

MATCH 2

I like Pokemon music in general, but honestly, I thought that Sun and Moon's soundtrack kind of underwhelming. Compared to other soundtracks, there weren't as many standouts from Sun and Moon. Thankfully though, Vast Poni Canyon was one of those standouts, so I'm happy to see it in! As an aside, my other top song would be the Elite Four theme with Guzma Battle and Gladion Battle as honorable mentions. With Vast Poni Canyon, everything comes together quite nicely. Catchy flute and guitar melodies along with the drumming rhythm.

The Dark Messenger has some really cool dark chord progressions that I enjoy, but other parts are less enjoyable. I like the initial organ part before the drums kick in, and 2:13-2:27 is really cool as well. I'd rather hear more of that instead of 1:03-1:52, which is still good, but not as good as those other parts. Vast Poni Canyon's the clear pick for me, but there's reason for me to consider this a somewhat close match.

MATCH 3

I also don't really like the dubstep parts of To the Horizon, but the parts with the violin and flute are pretty nice.

Flightless is okay. Some decent parts throughout (mainly the ones where the piano shows up) and others that are just fine.

Match 2 wound up being much closer than I was expecting! The Dark Messenger was a pleasant surprise that managed to appeal to a completely different part of me than Vast Poni does, and I've been listening and going back and forth between these two so much but I think I've finally made my decision. Would be happy with either winning though

First match is tough. Into Free -Dangan- is catchy, and definitely growing on me, but Blue Line (Instrumental) has that 'stock music selected by Jon Bois' vibe that I adore.
