Where I lived in South America people take buses everywhere and it's honestly more efficient and less work than 100million people driving the same road

The bus routes and transportation system is extremely poor in the US, especially with connecting suburbs to the city. You cant compare another country to the US as an example of how people here should travel.

It's a mix of both in the cities these days. It's definitely true that the vast majority of our infrastructure was built assuming we would be driving cars forever. But even when cities are forming these days people are resistant to forgoing driving for alternatives, and investing in infrastructure for public transit.

At least that's kind of how it is in Austin. Taking the bus is definitely something for "the poors" despite there being insufficient infrastructure for normal driving when compared to other major Texas cities (which was stopped by other local politics). So people just accept sitting an hour in traffic or working an extra hour or two to avoid rush hour.

The reason for cities having inadequate public transportation isnt because people dont want it, its because funding for these initiatives are determined by congress, and the two parties never come into an agreement because democrats want to focus on building public transit that connects the cities, while republicans want public transit to connect rural communities.

In my opinion if a business is going to park themselves in the middle of a super high cost city their employees cant afford to leave in then they should at least reimburse their travel expenses.

Cali is so strict with their laws. If you buy alcohol you have to keep it in your trunk. If you got 2 over the speed you get a ticket..... I don't know how people live there.

Until just this year efforts to fund modern public transit infrastructure have been shut down in local propositions. Recently though a semi planned light rail project was passed in the city (which I think in large part came thanks to the new voters moving to Austin). Half of its funding is being secured through a local property tax hike (convenient because property values are skyrocketing here) and they're hoping to secure the other half from the federal government. Lord knows if any of this will actually happen though.

Hopefully we'll find out for sure if some of this light rail project is actually built a decade from now. But the current light rail we have sees almost no usage from the locals. And tbh the bus works fine here anywhere south of 50th to downtown, but most people I know prefer to use lyft or uber when they don't want to deal with driving.

Nah. You can have alcohol in the front with you, so long as it's still sealed. If it's open, then yeah they can nail you on it.

For speeding, usually police will leave you alone until you're at least 5 mph above the speed limit. But the laws aren't what suck here, it's the cost of living.

In Vancouver it regularly gets to $1.50/l and that's when the dollar is much weaker too, which oddly enough works out to USD$4.25/gal when dollars are 4:3 as they had been the past year.
