I think someone having a relationship with an emotionless, artificial being is something The Orville actually did better than TNG.

Well this episode really showed the limits of Data. When he casually tells her that he will delete the relationship subroutine, it's actually kinda creepy. I'd go so far to call this epiosde pessimistic.

My only minor annoyance is that Ro Laren apologizes to Troi. She shouldn't have. She was right.

The juxtaposition of this Data & child episode with the Worf & child episode is funny in that Data is more aware of the kid's needs than Worf was of his own kid.

The creator of Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, envisioned a future where humans are no longer motivated by money, but to better themselves through science and exploration

Roddenberry went so far as to ban conflict between crew members, saying that evil and conflict could only come from a source outside of the Enterprise

However, Gene Roddenberry died during the episode The Game in Season 5, so the writers approved stories where crew members fight with each other

season 5 is just banger after banger

Has Riker and Worf ever actually had a hangout episode?

Maybe the logic is because Riker is the main guy sorting battle tactics while Worf fires the guns?

Some of the characters do eventually die. However, the actor that played the character often returns for a cameo role, like Tasha Yar. Star Trek fandom is a big happy family. Most of the Star Trek people still hang out with each other, after all this time
