The second level (designed to prevent players from beating the game as a rental) is where 70% of the difficulty can be found. The rest of the game is much easier.

The SNES version also has a glitch where there's an invisible branch you have to jump over in the ostrich section of the second level.

Scar was hard even with cheats. I made Simba immortal but the final battle still took forever cause I didn't have internet and didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing. I remember being confused on the mechanics of the fight

My most vivid memory of the game was trying to find out how to turn into adult Simba in the second level (I hadn't seen the movie yet, and thought he could just turn into a giant lion), and it glitched and actually happened.

I roared and turned into adult Simba, and ran around for like 5 seconds before it crashed.

They did that alot back then. One of the Ninja Gaiden games on NES was artificially made more difficult in the US version because of rentals. The Japanese version is way easier because renting games isn't a thing in Japan

My experience was pretty much the same. Took me years to beat Aladdin, but that game was awesome so it was worth it. The Lion King wasn't nearly as good, so not worth the trouble.

I was toying with this game a few weeks ago, and failed to beat the second level even with save states. I didn't roar at the monkeys properly, couldn't get it right and said to hell with it.

pretty ridiculous they did that for rental purposes. I mean you have a pretty fun lion king game here and you can't enjoy it because all you do is play the second level constantly. I guess if you don't suck like I do you'd be able to enjoy the rest of the game.

That ostrich part was really funky for sure, with or without the invisible branch. I rented genesis version. It was hard to figure out what the rules on that sequence even were. I'd just die over and over again on the jumps and not be able to figure out why.

Really the whole young simba part after the first level was fairly difficult. But got easier once you became adult simba and could wreck enemies.

Eh dunno if I agree with that. There's a lot of the game that's designed solely for trial and error.

You've got the acid fountains in Be Prepared that require a specific type of timing to be fast enough

You've got the Stampede level (this is the level that phased out my Dad/older family members from helping frustrated child me)

Simba's Exile is a tough level with falling rocks and instant kill boulders

Hakuna Matata has a tough waterfall to jump up (this is where kid me tapped out) and then the gorilla Boss

Simba's Return has a maze with respawning enemies

The lava level has some tough platforming sections where you need to keep up with the rock floating on the lava

The final level has a really obtuse method to beat Scar

Nearly every level has some trial and error bullshit that's designed to churn through lives.

I beat it for the first time without save states when the new re-release came out. But that was after a playthrough where I used save states and knew everything that was coming. That's basically the trick or the game. But that takes a lot longer to do when you constantly have to replay the game.

I don't know. We're getting to a point where most gamers have not grown up in an environment where losing all your lives means you have to start the whole game over.

Even "permadeath" games these days have become more forgiving allowing you to make gradual progress as you start over after a death.

The fact that most people these days think "Dark Souls" is hard says it all really.

Not to mention The Lion King is still a popular franchise. I can see someone who doesn't have much experience with older games still giving that one a go.

It worked. The only reason I purchased the SNES Aladdin is because I couldn't get past the magic carpet level on limited access.

Yeah. It is unusual for a game like that to get easier as it goes along, but the adult Simba levels were easier for sure.

Ever since SMW getting a game over just increases the feel bad counter by 1 and gives you 5 more lives and you lose zero progress.

She started being confused because the game over screen appeared at all. Thats why I think shes faking. She didnt even wait to notice she lost her progress.
