Not including consoles that died after a year or two like the Dreamcast. Of course when you look at a total library sense things only go up so I'm just referring to new releases for each year.

Usually it takes a year or two for a console to gain momentum but Switch had a great first couple of years and things slowed down afterwards. Usually for consoles it's the opposite. Not as bad as the dramatic doomsday people are saying and I still have a ridiculous backlog on the thing to get through but still. 2017 especially was pretty damn special and things have slightly gone downhill each subsequent year. Is that fair to say?

100% agreed dude. The first two years, the Switch had 3 GOAT masterpieces with Odyssey, BotW, and Smash Ultimate, a slew of real solid new sequels (Splatoon, Yoshi, Kirby) a brand new IP in ARMS, and a bunch of other bonus extra remakes and stuff like Pokemon Let's Go and Mario Kart 8 DX.

From 2019 onward though? It's been a humongous fucking drag.

After the Wii U they kind of had to lead with their bangers. It worked, too.

And I know this board probably isn't big into Pokemon or Animal Crossing, but those had incredible showings too.

I love Animal Crossing, but honestly if you stand back and remove yourself from the context of 2020, it's not a great entry in the series.

They added very little to the game, while taking a shit ton of features out, just to slowly reintroduce them back in, pretending they're updates. It's not a bad game by any means, but without a pandemic keeping people indoors that game would've been seen as sooooo average.

Id hazard that a video games sales arent very indicative of their quality. Its not an incredible entry. Its a horrible one that came along at the right time and right place.

Put out the amazing, console selling titles like zelda and mario in the first two years--fuck the rest.

Literally no update on Bayonetta 3 or Metroid Prime 4. Animal Crossing was the worst piece of garbage I've ever played (the online made me develop brain cancer), and Pokemon Sword and Shield were huge letdowns--regardless of their sales.

The only thing the switch has going for it is that it's "fun" to play indie games on. Which, sure, I guess. If you like playing games on the couch or in bed or on the train that's cool--I get that. Personally not for me and I'll keep playing indies on my PC.

Their online is still trash. Super Mario 3D All Stars was kicking us while we're down. $60 for three old-ass games with NO improvements that even emulators did 20 years ago. Wow. No N64 VC, No GCN VC, still lacking in SNES games...Just what the hell are they doing? I would sell my Switch if I didn't buy it for the two games they haven't shown in four years.

Nintendo Online sucks as a service. What the hell are they doing.

The crazy thing is they would make a fuckton if they had some sort of premium Nintendo Online subscription service that had a huge back catalogue of their stuff from Gamecube to earlier. Would probably outnumber Xbox Game Pass with barely any of the effort lol.

PS3 games are very difficult. GCN is easy peezy. The Smash Bros community literally created online matchmaking for Melee on Dolphin (more specifically Slippi) and the online is better than Smash Bros Ultimate online which is unplayable half the time, and passing the other half.

A hacked Switch does it fine as far as I know. Gamecube is one of the easier ones to emulate.

The Wii U could natively play Gamecube games and they still didn't have a Virtual Console for it. Even though modders can inject Gamecube games themselves that literally play perfectly. Nintendo are a weird ass company sometimes.
