Honestly, I'd be looking forward to it. I'm sure when he's not trying to subvert expectations at the expense of an existing trilogy's coherence he could make something good. TLJ had some decent ideas, just poor execution in places.

Wait how was it dumb? There were only 3 Jedi around in that time period. One is MIA, the other doesnt associate with the Jedi anymore, and the last Jedi (pun semi intended) is currently rebuilding the order.

There are likely a couple more than 3 but You-know-who is by far the most powerful and sensible choice

The thing is, he is a good director and I can see he had some good ideas for episode 8. The problem was having him do whatever in the middle of a trilogy. Should have been given his own trilogy or made him stick to Abrahms blueprint. Hell Abrahms should have just done the whole trilogy itself.

Yeah him showing up in the Mando finale makes total sense, and the scene itself was well done (apart from the CGI on his face lol)

The main reason that's been soured for me slightly is people liking it for what I see to be the wrong reasons.

But it's ultimately not that big a deal

The CGI was bad. And the way that it was telegraphed for like 10 mins was silly. It would have been better as a surprise rather than a big lead up.

Luke is gone to parts unknown, the villain is a former student of his, the protagonists are a random scavenger girl and a defecting stormtrooper

luke is on his exiled world and is all grumpy and miserable

So? It's clear that he played a non-negligible role in TLJ, which is the worst thing ever apparently, so why would making him in charge of writing the films be an improvement?

Yeah I don't get what John Boyega's complaints (which are pretty valid) have to do with TLJ. While it may not have been what you wanted, he actually had an arc in that film.

Unlike in 9 where he was totally sidelined.

Cool, I really liked TLJ. I'd love to see what he does if he can like, leave the Skywalker stuff and tell his own full Star Wars story.

Although I think most of the fanbase has way too toxic association with the name Rian Johnson to ever give him another chance. Which is weird because JJ Abrams definitely deserves more of the hate there.

Heres what I think I know. J. J. wrote Episode VII, as well as drafts for VIII & IX. Then Rian Johnson arrived and wrote The Last Jedi entirely. I believe there was some sort of general consensus on the main lines of the trilogy, but apart from that, every director writes and realizes his film in his own way. Rian Johnson and J. J. Abrams met to discuss all of this, although Episode VIII is still his very own work. I believe Rian didnt keep anything from the first draft of Episode VIII.

I say it every time the film comes up, but the last half hour tricked everyone into thinking the rest of the movie was just as good.

I liked it because the first two acts were clear buildup, and while they were slow they weren't boring, and the payoff was amazing.

But I also do think the director is fantastic and he has done some of my favorite movies.

That is a great question to which I have no answer. I would say that falls on Kathleen Kennedy's lap, but anytime I see criticism of her brought up the general response is "that's not her job" so I don't actually know who would have been responsible for cross movie continuity.

The simplest explanation is that they didn't think they needed to tell Lucasfilm how to make movies, and Lucasfilm that Rian Johnson's ideas were good and went with them. Simplest explanation etc.

That's a shame.

After TLJ, I can only expect that three movies of the same calibur would only definitively beat the Star Wars Sequels as the "Worst Trilogy Ever". They would be better off giving Zack Snyder a Star Wars movie, at least he can direct a middle entry in a story!

No, I didn't. Attack of the Clones alone is a far better use of my time than the Sequel Trilogy. Prequel memes alone can justify an entire watchthrough of the first three movies, whereas the ST should be used as a form of torture.

3.) literally anything is better than letting reddit direct a star wars that we got for episode 9. I would rather watch the all the twilight movies than be forced to sit through that mess of a movie with weak fakeouts, no plan, and pointless romance, ditching everything the last 2 movies attempted to do all to cheapen the arc of the OT.

nothing Rian did wouldn't work with what JJ started. It just didn't go in the bland predictable way that people wanted because dear god more that 2 people in the galaxy matter.
