But theres no definitive version which is presumably their problem. What does "faithful" mean in this context?

Presumably, they're going to the material before the French got their hands on it.

The video in post #13 explains this fairly well, or at least explains what the "reimaginings" are missing.

Itll be nice to just get a straightforward King Arthur rather than another twisted version.

French director Eric Rohmer made a faithful adaptation of the story of Percival. It was faithful down to the use of heavily stylized, theatrical costumes and mannerisms, as they may (perhaps) have been seen by 12th century theatergoers, with dialogue and a singing chorus taken straight from source texts, rhyming couplets and all. Its so classical its basically a work of avant garde cinema. So, your move, Zack Snyder.

What year was this and is it called percival? I kind of want to watch it. Love stuff like that.

And always worth sharing:

A good video, but its worth noting that Robert Bresson's Lancelot du Lac was another significant Arthurian adaptation, but its minimalist to the point of abstraction and could be accused of being downright nihilistic.

Rabbit of Caerbannog would be a way more awesome Arthur spinoff.

@yutterh
Perceval, and its from 1978 (its full French title is Perceval le Gallois). Its not on video in the states right now, but there's a very nice (and region locked) Blu-ray from the UK. I think its streaming on Amazon Prime, but only in standard definition and I'm not sure about the video quality.
