Do you agree?

Seeing a lot of calls for term limits during this whole impeachment/senate trial.

Ideally, I'd be for them, but honestly I feel like if you gave senators like... 2 terms, a Senator in their second term has absolutely no built in impetus to act with any sense of honor or anything. At least in regards to an impeachment trial or whatever because what do they stand to lose? They've won their allotted terms, so why should they care if they blatantly and obviously give a giant middle finger to the country?

I guess you could argue the opposite in the case of partisan politics, it can free them to do as they see fit in their second term and give a middle finger to the party.

Maybe I'm just becoming jaded

One term.

Career politicians are an abomination.

The only problem with term limits is the fear of public officials knowing they will be out of office forever in x years and sell their soul (even more than now) to a corporation that will hire them on as a consultant (aka- legal bribe money) after their term ends.

Acting with honor is actively discouraged currently, so that isn't something I'd be worried about.

This could possibly happen occasionally. They wouldn't have to worry about getting primaried, so deviating from the party's expectations wouldn't be as big of a deal.

Term limits would do nothing to fix the Senate(or anything, really), because it is the the apportionment of senators which is the problem.

2 terms max (rather 1 but open to 2), and drop their pay to something closer to other public servants and otherwise take money as a motivating factor out of that position. Reward compassion and the drive to actually want to do good by the people, not just what lines your pockets.

Fuck that, we need to pay them more so they stop taking so much money from private interests.

pay them more and pair it with mandatory 20 years in prison for taking bribes. throw in bonus pay for turning over evidence that leads to a conviction for bad actors trying to bribe them...

Those fuckers get paid $174k/yr. They don't need any more money from taxpayers.

If you term limited Senators, then the Republicans would be guaranteed to hold perpetual control of the Senate (senators like Joe Manchin, Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, etc hold onto their jobs from name recognition alone when the GOP forces politics along the urban/rural divide)

No term limits. KY would be a desolate wasteland if we didn't have McConnell.

This, plus term limits in general are a bad idea; it makes legislators (especially ones with six year terms) less accountable to voters and more inclined to view public service as a stepping stone to the private sector.

What'd be the difference compared to now?

Appalachia is depressing and effectively a wasteland

Thats like putting a bandage on a severed limb, except in this case the doctor puts the bandage on the wrong arm because you fired all the experienced doctors due to term limits.
