McCarthy was pissed and quickly bowed back down to his king. McConnell damn near publicly trashed Trump, and yet he will still bow down to his god. They could have succeeded in killing some senators, while Trump cheered them on on Twitter and they still wouldn't vote to impeach him.

They can hardly report that they feared for their lives, were almost killed, were meters away from people screaming for the deaths and then ignore it.

By the way can you imagine if congress actually worked this hard on getting a stimulus package out? These last few days both democrats and republicans have been debating so much on this subject, don't think they put this much work into a stimulus deal for like 6 months already

Because that man incited a mob to try and overthrow the legitimately elected Government. By impeaching him you strip him of the benefits that holding that office held. Trump is not gonna be convicted. The max with witness testimony is maybe and I mean a strong maybe that 5 Republican Senators turn. And those 5 will be ones that can afford to lose the Trump support and will do so to protect their own image. No way 17 GOP Senators turn. In fact, they'll just say that while they find Trump guilty of sedition, they will state it's not impeachable because he is no longer in office. They will push the narrative to take this to criminal justice path which will go nowhere and just be a waste of taxpayer dollars.

I love the narrative. First you impeached too fast and now you can't be impeached because he is no longer in office. Really? So a president can become a quasi tyrant and run amuck of the country, but can't be called out for injustice because he is leaving office. One of the main principles of the impeachment clause is insure a president doesnt go nuts right before term, the legislative branch can bar him from holding office again.

Plus if the Senate did convict Trump, his lawyers could appeal this to the Supreme Court who would be the highest authority in position to actually say if the impeachment is unconstitutional.

There's no way they would even hear it. If they did they'd be saying they have more authority in matters of impeachment than Congress does despite the Constitution explicitly, and only, giving the power of impeachment to Congress.
