It's a normal thing in most of the middle east and Islamic countries in general.

I have 2 cousins married to each other. I know much more examples from relatives, neighbors and friends.

All of them have perfectly healthy and normal kids. The only case I can think of where it had a negative effect is my neighbour , he married his cousin and both of them had an uncle with down syndrome , they had 3 healthy kids , but the 4th one has it.

It occurs less these days because much of cousins marriages in the past were because of parents pressure , but as I said there's still many doing it willingly , and almost no one looks at it as a bad thing.

Honestly, it is weird, but nothing I care about being illegal. I mean France doesn't have an age of conscent. 18 being universal with the Romeo and Juliet(to give 3 years of room for teens and young adults) laws in place should be a priority in my opinion.
