1. I-35 has been under construction for over 30 years just in Austin, TX. There was no way a 2000-mile border wall was going to be completed in 4 or 8 years.
2. A border wall isn't going to stop illegal immigration. We already have videos of people climbing over some of the border wall sections that were built, despite the "anti-climb technology" Trump claimed it would have.
3. People can still tunnel under the wall
4. Waste of time and money
5. Trump just wanted this as a vanity project that wasn't going to serve any real purpose.
6. Most of the illegal immigration in the US happens because people come here legally with a visa and then overstay.

Most of the illegal aliens in this country come from people overstaying visas, not hopping the southern border. If they really cared about the issue, they would issue crippling fines to the companies that hired them. But that would hurt the guy touting the wall and some of his biggest supporters in congress.

The US could build a border wall but why? I would rather we just pick the best of the people coming and punish and deport people that end up being shit bags if they fail the trial run rather than building a wall.

As long as the US treats people that are here illegally with kid gloves people will keep coming in large numbers and why shouldn't they? I don't demonize these people its a rational decision to come here and work and for decades we have basically said "its illegal to come here, but no ones checking IDs or anything once we get here and the pay is 10 times better".

It is 2021. If the US really wanted to stop illegal immigration we could implement a national ID system and just do ID checks all over the place until everyone thats an illegal immigrant is deported. Everyone knows this. It would feel mean because it would be mean and you would see millions of people deported but it would cost less and be a lot more effective and less ridiculous than building a giant wall across the entire southern border if your actual goal was to deport people that are here illegally.

Instead both parties for decades have played this game where they pretend to care about illegal immigration to placate the plebs as they just shrug and let the flow continue.

Well, 4 years later, I don't believe it's even 25% completed, it was constructed poorly enough that the hurricanes took portions of it out, and there were multiple videos online of people very easily scaling it, and hopping over it, in a matter of a minute. All of this at the low cost of 11 billion dollars.

I see this as an issue.

Ignoring actual arguments for and against the wall, it's just kind of garbage to run a campaign on forcing another country to pay for your border control, completely fail to force another sovereign nation to do something like that, attempt to instead get it through congress that the american people should pay for it, all while pretending that's not happening, and then finally when your moronic gambit fails, declare a state of emergency and appropriate the funds outside of the democratic proccess.

I was fine with it ar first, then I learned that in order to build it they had to take people's homes, orphanages, churches, stores etc. The land rights for it was a mess. I dislike when the government takes land from people for anything. It was more trouble then it was worth.

People can still climb it, including little kids. People can cut through it with power tools from regular home improvement shops. Big portions of it are kept open for months at a time because of seasonal rainfall and flooding.

Trump abused executive authority to declare a crisis that he himself admitted didn't exist the same day he declared it, to take tens of millions of dollars from the military to fund the wall. These were funds meant for infrastructure improvement and updating/building facilities for troops' families (like new schools).

It is extremely damaging to the environment. It can cause a severe loss of biodiversity and extinction of one or more species.

It's a shitty idea that accomplishes fuck all.

Everyone - Republicans and democrats alike - were OK with spending more to enhance border patrol and monitoring capabilities through 21st century means that wouldn't cost as much, be less damaging to the environment and be more effective.
