One of the best power fantasy games of all time. Explore everything. The story is pedestrian but the game is dripping with flavor. There's a lot to do.

Just finished it this morning on the XSX, amazing game.

I leveled the launch tree all the way and found myself using it more than any of the weapons. It can be pretty OP.

After reading some glowing reviews, it still didn't interest me enough to want to try it. But since it came up on PS+, thought I'd give it a whirl.

It's not brilliant, but aside from getting lost every now and then, I'm having a great time with it.

To think I would have ignored it completely...

I love the game so much. If you haven't yet, I do recommend playing Alan Wake first, and maybe Quantum Break.

I can't think of any real tips for the gameplay besides taking your time, both in combat situations and just when exploring.

Make sure you synchronize all the Control Points - sometimes it's required to progress through the story and sometimes they're just there, but they act as fast travel points so it's in your best interest to "collect 'em" as you go.

There's a ton of lore items to collect and you should definitely read all of them - they give a lot of necessary context to the world that you won't really get from regular dialogues with the characters, and they're just interesting.

These mechanics don't appear in the game until you're a couple hours in - I don't know how it is on Hard, but for the lower difficulties I didn't think it was too worth it to pursue the Agency Alert missions (timed challenges that randomly pop up after a certain point) unless you're trying to go for 100% achievements. It is worthwhile to pick up the standard "Kill 5 of X in a Certain Area" missions since those give you somewhat decent rewards. There's no penalty for "failing" them, since they're basically radiant quests, so if you're going to be heading to a certain area but all of them are for a *different* area, then you can just accept and fail them to refresh the list.

I played Alan Wake way back in the day and really liked it. And if I recall correctly, one of the DLCs for Control connects it with Alan Wake, correct?

I tried to play Quantum Break once and hated it...

Also, upgrade weapons frequently, even the ones you don't use as the extra mod slots on the weapons will free up space

You will be dismantling plenty of mods

Only other game besides Bloodborne or Dark Souls that compelled me to actually READ notes in a video game because all the exposition and dialogue made no lick of sense as to what the secret agency operates as, where the fuck did the "Hiss" come from, or why the hell was I/Jesse the supposed hired Director of said agency when I'm dressed in casualwear.

*SPOILER*
The lore gets even better once Alan Wake enters the picture and it's not a brief cameo either as they're connected in-universe.

What really drew me in with the lore is that it pulls in real life events, too. I really felt like that made the game feel real and more alive.
