They've become more RPG-esque. Loot with different stats, different weapon playstyles. But they suffer from most open world problems which is tremendous amount of filler side quests and exploration mixed in with average storytelling.

Though that's kind of Ubisoft's M.O.. They make beautiful worlds with nothing in them

lmfao you missed an entire evolution of the series from smaller scaled games that focused on stealth to games with larger open worlds and full-blown naval combat and piracy and shit to basically open world RPGs like The Witcher 3 with stealth elements in it.

In Valhalla you're a viking and you raid churches for supplies to build up your settlement while cutting off peoples' limbs it's pretty dope, but it has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed outside of some token bullshit plot device they came up with to try to connect the story to earlier AC stuff.

Still a major collectathon but they did a really smart job here - now instead of taking on side quests that require you to revisit camps that you just cleared to find items... all the side quests are just unique little vignettes that play out in the local area and require very little time to complete, which makes them even more interesting.

For example, I found a 98% naked guy dancing on a rock formation and he told me he was from a nudist church and they kicked him out because he embraced nudity too much. So he asked me to steal their clothes so they had no other choice but to fully embrace the nudist lifestyle, and I did, and that was the whole thing lmao.

There's other stuff to collect like weapons and armor pieces, Abilities, etc. It doesn't feel like as much of a chore as previous AC games because of this.

Congrats on that, I ran out of patience for that game and just rushed through the story and DLC after a while.

Also I see a reference to an achievement to avenge other players' deaths, which sounds like Origins' "multiplayer" mechanic but I haven't seen anything about it yet.

I hear ya. It took a concerted effort to pick up Cyberpunk 2077 after the holiday period for some reason, even though I had been playing it non-stop before then.

The only part that would get them in trouble if it wasn't. They also still skimp a lot on sex scenes, it's like "lol I said something dirty" and then "lol yeah girl so hot, I would love to frolick in your fields like Freya" and then it just shows time advancing. GTA3 had more graphic sex scenes than this.

Yeah I'm digging it a lot more than Odyssey. Still doesn't have a really compelling story to it but at least the side content has been streamlined and buffed up.

Yeah that was dumb, I only did it once on accident during a raid because they were rushing into a bottleneck position that I was fighting my way through and then that stupid "Killing civilians will desync you!" message came up like what.
