First time buying a bed, and a king size bed with bed spring costs over $2k!!! The sales guy said the bed spring is required if I want to keep the 10-year warranty. I read Simmons' warranty, and sure enough, it does require a bed spring...

Furthermore, a king size bed frame costs at least $100, with nice wooden ones going for like $500+.

What the shit...

*EDIT*: To clarify, I've been just moving with my queen size bed that my parents bought me almost a decade ago. I wanted to upgrade to a king size bed, and then this.

Sure, they cost a lot. You pay for quality. You can buy a bed for $600 if that's all you want. I bought a bed for around $1,300 Canadian approximately 14 years ago. It still gives me the same firm support as the day I bought it. Conversely, I bought a single bed for $100. It had no support, and sagged in the middle. I threw it out after two years.

If you don't need a new bed right now, then wait for a sale. A new bed and a sectional are the two next pieces of furniture I want to buy.

So what sale is good? The guy from Mattress Firm was saying the President's Sale at 40% off is "as good as it gets", except for clearances and floor models. I'm on my way now to the Original Mattress Factory to see other beds / prices.

Just buy the cheapest firm mattress you can find then go hit up a thrift store and pick up some cheap blankets and comforters to use as padding.

Use a bed sheet and bed sheet clips to hold it all down and you good to go.

A sale is only good if you think it's actually worth it. I have a rule where I won't buy something on sale if I don't think the full price is worth it. If I want something where I'll pay full price for it, then I will happily buy it if it's on sale. If you're still hesitant on buying something at a sale price, you wouldn't buy it at full price anyways. So, shop around and find something that you like.

Is there an advantage to a box spring frame? I was charged at the furniture store some ridiculous price and so I went to online and picked up one of those assembly bed frames from a fraction of the price. Now I have more space in my room where I can put things under my bed and I have never missed my woodenbox frame I was using for over a decade.

Yeah. Upgrading from a shitty 10 year old cheap mattress to a quality pillow top a few years back was one of the best things I ever did.

Even if I kept this mattress the rest of my life it would remain far more comfy than that old piece of crao ever was.

The warranty paperwork says you need to have the matching box spring, or it voids the warranty.

Anywho, went to Original Mattress Factory and all their mattresses are different compared to Mattress Firm. I started Googling mattresses, and it seems like every store has different mattresses. How the hell am I supposed to compare? Ugh...

I've bought a couple. A twin for my 4 year old. It serves its purpose. I've laid on it and I found it a bit soft more my taste, but I like a firm mattress.

I bought an extra firm one for me and my wife. Its a very sturdy mattress, but it may be a bit too firm on its own. My fault for buying it online with no testing. Nothing that buying an extra cushioned cover didn't fix.

Interesting. My mattress is not great, but it's not totally shot either.
It seems like between the price and the convenience this could be the way to go.

The last time I needed a mattress I found the in store shopping experience to be unpleasant. The salesman approach was a real turn off. Not only were the prices too high, but it's hard to tell if you'll actually like the mattress. A mattress that seems comfortable for the first 2 minutes of laying on it might not be comfortable after 8 hours of laying on it. You really have no idea.

My boyfriend and I both bought foam mattresses online. Mine is a bed in a box, and his is a tuft and needle. Both of us are happy with our purchase. Foam is the way to go and you'll be looking in the $500 to $1500 range.
