Cats need taurine in their diet, and there are very, very few vegan options high enough in taurine to meet a cat's nutritional needs, one being garlic, and getting a cat to eat enough garlic to meet a daily need proves difficult. Lacking it can affect the brain and muscle development, resulting in a shorter, less active and less healthy life. These idiots who feed cats vegan diets and say it's fine can go to hell.

No, they're not. Humans can get adequate nutrition with an entirely plant based diet. Cats literally cannot live on a meatless diet. It's not hypocritical to say, "I don't need animal products, but this cat does."

Some cats can handle a plant-based diet but it's not just a matter of "here Fluffy, eat this and fuck off." You have to regularly measure the alkalinity of their urine and consult with a vet regularly to make sure they aren't developing dick crystals and UTIs and shit.

I know a few people who seem to be making it work (including someone who isn't even vegan, cat just had a ton of allergies) but combined with it usually being cost prohibitive, it's currently too big of an ask to say "do this vegoons, or you're a hypocrite."

Who knows what the future will bring though.

Allergies are a different issue altogether and that's reasonable if it the only thing the cat can tolerate (that seems unlikely though... my mom had a cat who was allergic to existing pretty much and she found a food it could eat fine).

But if it isn't medically necessary for some reason anyone who decides to have a pet that was born a carnivore can either feed it what it is meant to eat or fuck right off. Don't get a cat if you're gonna impose your morals onto an animal whose diet requires meat.

If you want a pet that can eat a vegan diet, there are many other options, including birds like caiques, conures, cockatiels, who eat a lot of fruits, nuts, and pellets. Rabbits can be a good pet, same with tortoises, hell even a fish tank. Don't keep a carnivore as a pet if you aren't prepared to own a carnivore as a pet. It's cruel.

It doesn't include cows, lambs, chickens, wild-caught Alaskan salmon, and all the other stuff manufactured foods are made of, especially not ones modified by human intervention. Those foods can also be fortified or contain preservatives, all of which they're most definitely not "meant to eat."

A lot of cat food brands are also flat out trash, even if they contain meat and all the essential nutrients, including many of the big names.

Meat. Not Meat.

These two things are not the same as eating a chicken instead of a quail.

You are right about most foods being trash. But my cats food budget is literally almost half of my own. Dude gets top tier dry food (after so much trial and error to get him off Purina garbage), and gets raw meat at least a couple times a week.... so that doesn't apply to me.

I feed my cat the absolutely best possible diet. Like he probly eats better than 99% of cat.

Yeah. If you are willing to spend a bit (or a lot) more and do a bit of research its really not hard to find quality pet food brands.

And I mean yes most foods have a ton of additives and garbage but a bit of preservative or organic filler is not remotely comparable to literally feeding a carnivore an exclusively plant based diet.
