While this is technically true, most people are unfimiliar with the word initialism and often put initialisms under the umbrella of acronyms, which is now changing the meaning to include it. That's how language works--it's not about what's technically correct but how people use it.

nobody is going to say "sfusd" over "esseffyouessdee". "vapa", ohteeohaitch, was probably not commonly referred to as "veeayepeeaye"

so, as i said, they did most likely replace an acronym with an initialism. for some reason. the point of which isn't entirely clear.

Methinks there's some deliberate scheme at play here. Whoever's driving this isn't genuinely motivated in "the cause", but diverting time/investment/attention here in the interest of something else separately.

The school name change initiative was something I felt was already a real stretch, but could kinda keep open mind to. This, particularly behind the counterargument that abbreviations are globally-used for objective practicality, is a waste of time.
