Mathematically speaking Summoned Skull is better since it has the same Attack but only requires 1 tribute. Hell, Jinzo is situationally stronger having only 100 less attack but negates Trap Cards while also requiring one tribute. The only reason Dark Magician still gets support is Yugi and its not even that great a card.

In the show, or at least the Pegasus tournament saga, you don't need tributes to summon strong cards.
