So far it is one of the best looking AC games, I am really loving the dice games and flyting, and I like that they seemed to have toned down the fetch quest nonsense and focused on just making unique content (but I'm early on so that could be a mistake on my part).

Conversely... I have no sense of progression at all lmao. The introduction just kinda rushed you through a lot and I don't feel compelled by the story. I mean, I am sure it picks up when I actually return to the longhouse and stuff after getting my boat but like holy cow why should I care about any of that. Just a weak start.

I am now three hours in. VERY EARLY GAME SPOILERS FOLLOW:

There's a guy in a cave that kicks my ass every time but I hope leveling up a little will help with that.

In the meantime, I actually continued the story by a couple of quests.

And wtf why are they rushing everything?? Like, "oh lol OK you drank mead ok enjoy this Assassin's Blade!!". I predicted it would be something that you find during a raid and then you spend your adventure trying to fully realize what it is (who knows, maybe it's even crafted from the Spear of Leonidas or something), but nope, they just... give it to you.

And those guys with Sigurd... They have to be Templars right? I'm just confused who wrote those game or decided this was the direction to go.

Probably overthinking things since it is so early on.

I played about 15 hours and also wasn't really hooked by the plot. It's not bad, it's just...there. I would say to get to England before making any full judgments of the game; the structure really makes itself clear at that point.

Ubisoft is really bad at making me care as well. All their recent games are either carried by gameplay or just boring at everything.

I got about 4 hours in until I dropped it for the time being. I think what kills it for me, other than the bland combat and platforming, is the skill tree. Holy shit. That thing is daunting for absolutely no reason.

There's no character customization in that way; you just choose the gender of the Eivor you want to play.

I really like big skill trees, and loved the skills in Odyssey, but too many nodes on the one in Valhalla just feel inconsequential, or not interesting.

I've found the story WAY more interesting than Odyssey. Couldn't get more than a few hours into that, but Valhalla does a great job of making me care about Eivor while also having cool connections to the larger AC lore.

Yeah I didn't understand at first that you have to branch out to unlock the random floating abilities because the screen is too dark lmao.

I didn't understand that either. You can let the animus choose depending on how it feels? I'm assuming it just chooses one at the start but it sounded like it would change it randomly throughout the game

There are some cool upgrades in those trees but I'd agree it fees needlessly complex when you look at it from a bird's eye view. I feel like they feel like they went too far with Odyssey is basically making Alexios/Kassandra a super hero that could explode groups like a Diablo character by activating a few abilities so they tried to tone things down.
