I think a key difference with today vs yesteryear is that back then, you were kind of just stuck with whatever was popular. You had a radio, you could watch tv, you could go to local shows. That's it. But now you have unfettered access to all music being made the world over. That's an insane difference. Access, sure, but with todays advertising capabilities and the fact that there are effectively monopolies on certain parts, things can still be throttled. Remember when Drake released Scorpion, and it was shoved down everyones throat ESP on Spotify? You could search country and hes on the top of the list. Also I love Jacob Collier, hes probably one of the best musicians in pop music since Stevie Wonder. And if someone doesnt like Stevie Wonder I can just consider their opinion irrelevant. The music in the early to mid 2000s was decent, but it started to take a plunge sometime during the very late 2000s.
