Unstructured lifestyle changes aren't feasible for me. I know what doesn't work for me and I know I can't just say "ok ill eat less :DDD"

I tried that, but it just seems untenable when I have a wife and kids who absolutely wouldn't be on the same restriction.

Ah, see i live with one roommate who is barely even there most of the time and typically leeches dinner off of his friends at their house. So I make all my own meals...

Best diet is one packed with protein (note that I said protein and not just meat) and plenty of vegetables. This assumes you moderately work out and try to build at least a little muscle.

Foods that should be staples for you:

  • Black beans
  • Greek yogurt
  • Quinoa
  • Eggs
  • Spinach (I prefer frozen)
  • Kale and Brocolli
  • Bananas and other fruits
  • Turkey and chicken
  • Peanut butter
  • Tortillas or whole grain bread
  • Swiss cheese
Many of these can be combined in multiple different ways. For instance you could combine eggs/quinoa/spinach/chicken for a "fried rice" like dish, or go quinoa/black beans/tortillas/turkey for a nice burrito. I generally keep the carbs low, but I don't abandon them. Doing so is recipe for a slowed brain and lower performance.

The key is that if you have something like a sandwich, you need good ingredients to go with it. So like a chicken sandwich with spinach and swiss cheese is great, but if you start throwing processed meats and cheeses in there, and avoid the vegetables, you can run into trouble. My advice is always to eat the right foods before you start worrying about portion sizes. Many try to change what they eat and go with minuscule portion sizes at the same time and it never fucking works.

Wellness Dietitian Mary Condon, RN, LDN, said the keto diet may result in weight loss and lower blood sugars, but its a quick fix. More often than not, its not sustainable. Oftentimes weight gain may come back, and youll gain more than what you lost, Condon said.

Condon said you should always consult your primary care doctor before starting any new diet.
If you are on diabetic medication that causes low blood sugar, those meds may need to be adjusted within a few days, Condon said. There are heart-healthy sources of fat, however if that person is not educated on heart-healthy sources of fat, they may consume excessive amounts of saturated fats that can increase your risk of heart disease, Condon said.

The keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. Strict diets like keto could also cause social isolation or disordered eating. Keto is not safe for those with any conditions involving their pancreas, liver, thyroid or gallbladder.
Kleinman said someone new to the keto diet can also experience whats called the keto flu with symptoms like upset stomach, dizziness, decreased energy, and mood swings caused by your body adapting to ketosis.

Sounds like you'll do great on a meme diet that prevents you from eating a third of all food then.

The problem with the keto diet is when you cheat (and you will) it takes your body 3-4 days to get back into ketosis. My wife and I found we dropped 10-15lbs in about 3 weeks, but then we had bread or pasta one night and we ended up slowly gaining weight back because of it.

In the end we just implemented a lifestyle change instead. Added more veggies into our diet and portion control and we have lost roughly 35lbs each in about 3 months.
