But what about (consults Republican playbook) the small business owners who don't enjoy the efficiencies of scale like a multinational corporation does? Surely McDonalds can't speak for them and raising minimum wages would shutter THOUSANDS of these businesses all across America.

Mcdonalds has a much easier time adjusting to artificially high labor costs than their smaller competition like smaller chains or local mom and pop shops. It's the same reason amazon is in favor of a higher federal minimum wage.
