I was not. I'd heard people talking about Ori before but didn't know what it is. I rarely buy games these days except old SNES carts, and $1.50 sales of DOS games on GOG. Love the artwork tho.

Ecco is actually a pretty good comparison though it's actually much better than Ecco in terms of music, controls, and graphics.

The Messenger was quite easy. Thought it was over rated. Still a quality title but not all I had hoped for.

"Adult Swim Games" I'm assuming this is like a Family Guy humor style but with Vikings? Like the artstyle.

Holy man I have a lot of suggestions here ha ha. Usually when you ask a question like this one game sticks out, but Ori is the only one I've seen mentioned more than once.

I think it's just published by them, don't think it has anything to do with the actual game. It shares similarities to Ghouls n Ghosts.

Blasphemous is a 2d Dark Souls game.

I think it's good, almost as good as salt and sanctuary.

Guacamelee is a lot of fun imo I havent played the second yet, but I hear it is good.

Not sure if it fits the criteria, but

Dust: An Elysian Tail is also fun, if you dont mind the animal characters.

Blasphemous looks great. I also heard of Salt & Sanctuary prior and it looked similar. Celeste is damn good; Ive actually played a good bit of that game but didnt finish it with all of the extra levels. It gets pretty tough, but feels fair.

The Mega Man Zero games are the most difficult Mega Man games Ive played.

I thought blasphemous was a pretty easy game. Much easier than the artstyle implied. The only bosses i have trouble beating was the final boss. I beat few of the bosses on first try (not on NG+ which i heard is harder)

It's pretty enjoyable and top notch pixel art + atmosphere but not really for a challenge.

For smaller game that haven't been said, i reccomend momodora: reverie under the moonlight. Pretty short and sweet, i beat it in around 5 hours with true ending. It usually goes super cheap on any major sales

For something that is less combat focused, more like platforming+puzzle i reccomend inmost. It's a horror platforming metroidvania lite but you don't fight because most of the monsters will kill you on sight, and instantly. Instead you try to outmaneuver them, run or entrap them.

Also short, about 6 to 7 hours long but really good and the story is super sweet. It started very cryptic at first, but the ending is just so beautiful and has a powerful message.

My Steam Wishlist is going to be front loaded as fuck after this topic since I can only convince myself to buy one or maybe two of these games. Wish I hadn't inherited mom's cheapness since there's really no reason for it, but what can you do?

Yeah, the Mega Man bosses do need to be defeated in order as they can sometimes be impossible if you dont have the right weapon.

It can be challenging, not a walk in the park. I wouldn't put it on the level of the Souls games though, personally.

Cheers, I like challenge, but if I want to torture myself with brutally hard games I generally stick to SNES shmups.

And honestly like I said I'm open to anything, I just mainly play 80's and 90's stuff so Cyber Shadow and it's contemporaries always tend to catch my eye more.

funny because i thought it was pretty easy, the easiest for 2d souls like metroidvania and souls like in general lol. still enjoyable, but not much of a challenge.

Environmental Station Alpha is a shortish and tough metroidvania (with an ABSURDLY long aftergame puzzle if thats your kind of thing)

Phoenotopia: Awakening just came out, and it is crack cocaine. What if Zelda 2 was good and pretty and had good puzzle platforming? It still wouldn't be as good as Phoenotopia.
