Should it?

June went to THAT Trump rally with one question:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN7E4xN2IVo

Surprising amount of "It should be" given the location.

imo, you're free to do what you want so long as it's your property and it isn't going to pose (immediate) danger to those around you.

I voted no it is not and it should not be, because its not illegal to do where I'm from.

I think context and intent are important (i.e. does it come with a threat, and is the act designed to threaten people, or is it more a "not in my name" type statement) and I also think its more serious to burn another countries flag than your own.

Fire is the preferred method of "retiring" a beat up old US flag.

From the Flag Code (8-k)
The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning

America would be fucking empty at this point.

Weird that people say this and then bitch at immigrants for running away from their country's problems.

Personally I think flag burning is a disgrace. However it's a form of protest and is protected by the constitution so it absolutely should be legal.

I wish people would make up their minds about how significant or not flags are. The same people triggered by Confederate flags being raised at the same time wonder what the big deal is about the US flag that's nothing more then a peice of cloth to them.

Usually its because displaying/wearing the US Flag is just something that's oversaturated to most people so it loses its meaning.

If somebody flies a confederate flag or Nazi flag, its a clear statement of intentions

That's just bad generalization.

I have a ton of respect for the American flag. The confederate flag is literally the flag of treason.

Especially when whatever noble messages they try to convey are usually lost immediately amongst the shit tons of Americans they've just offended.

Most Americans don't even know you're not supposed to wear clothing or use disposable items such as paper plates and cups with an American flag design but do it anyway. It's not surprising.

It's a pretty strong declaration of your dissatisfaction with the (current) USG.

I mean, its pretty individual based on the exact meaning but I'd take it as it being their way of saying that they want to burn down (ideally, figuratively) the current establishment and replace it with one that will cater more to their political desires.

If the right wing hadn't latched itself so strongly to nationalism and the flag in general, I'd imagine there'd be a lot of flag burners in the right wing.

Pretty sure you're not supposed to wear an actual flag as clothing.

At least that's the conclusion i remember the last time this was brought up on CE.

I wear a US Flag jacket and US Flag themed shirt basically every day so >_>

I see both sides here. Just burning a piece of cloth shouldnt be illegal but making a huge deal out of burning the flag and just to say fuck something in protest is a lil different.

Its like slurs. Yeah saying words should be legal but if youre only using them to offend people then i dunno.

No, it's anything with the flag design. The code says anything that is wearing apparel, drapery, bedding or disposable items. It's not illegal or anything, but it's against flag etiquette for the US.

It is and should remain legal, its a form of expression that is protected under the first amendment and in the bill of rights of other countries that value freedom of speech and expression.

I personally take more offence at people who worship a flag .

This is absolutely one of those I may not agree with you but Ill defend to the death your right to it, kinds of things.

I think theres zero positives that can come from doing it and its a very incendiary action but as a matter of freedom of expression, theres nothing technically prohibiting it so carry on. Youre basically asking to start a riot, though, and I wont object if you got arrested for inciting.

Yeah, it definitely shouldnt be celebrated as its a very strong sign of growing civil unrest and disapproval of a countrys government.

Focus of the government in that situation should be on why flags are being burned and not whether or not the person should be arrested for doing so

Well maybe the people should be right to disapprove of their government.

Like if I lived in Venezuela and someone burnt their flag I could empathize. The people charged with representing that flag have utterly failed it and a strong message should rightfully be sent.

Look, if I'm cold and the only way to keep warm is to burn some flags, I'm burning the flags.

If they dont want them burned, make them flame retardant. Make it mandatory they be made out of flame retardant materials. Otherwise, people gonna burn them.

Not going to make a show out of burning them, that's fucked. I'd never burn something to show off, but I'll burn almost anything for survival.
