He won't, so Trump unfortunately until he announces he's bored with it in some sensationalist way. The Rep. party has some serious thinking to do atm.

I'll believe it when I see it and it would be a shock, they can't do it with simple majority.

You need 67 votes to convict in the Senate.

doesn't he have to be convicted for him to be banned from holding office again? 'cause i seriously doubt that will happen.

What sucks about Josh Hawley is he looks bad ass in that picture with his fist in the air, then you see him in motion and you want to shove his head into the toilet.

To add to this, the "further barred from holding public office" is a separate vote that happens after conviction. So its technically possible for Trump to be convicted but not barred for life... but that's not likely to happen since only a simple majority is needed for that, not a super majority.

Hawley is probably more popular than ever with people that the GOP wants to appease.

Can he be barred for life if he isn't convicted if the Senate chooses to? Or is being convicted required for that vote to take place?

no, pretty sure the conviction has to happen first. and to top it off, even if he is convicted and they ban him from running again you can be damn sure this'll get contested in court for years, because they're playing fast and loose with a 300 year old document that never anticipated a situation like this ever happening.

It'd go to the Supreme Court and I wouldn't be surprised if the SCOTUS punted on the issue and/or defers to the Senate ruling since, hopefully, this issue is only about as common as every 244 years

Donald was already impeached a second time. He just hasn't been convicted (yet).
